Forums are a bit slow and not very active

I had to browse through the forum archive last weekend. This place used to be on fire.

Oh yes, MFGG's forum used to move so fast back in the day.

I like the slower pace of forums.

For the most part, people have to think more about what they're saying and they're not trying to compete with anyone else when they're typing their piece. You type something, think about it, maybe make an edit and then post something that can be a bit more meaningful. Group chats tend to be the opposite of this, constantly shifting and changing with everyone competing for the latest reply, anything said is quickly lost in a sea of text. There can be plenty of meaningful conversations had I'm sure but I prefer to take my time to think without words streaming in my face.

With regards to getting feedback on games or sprites, I prefer forums as well. You can go back and look at what people said and really take it in, make notes on what was said and focus on that rather than getting instant gratification feedback. To me that serves a better purpose for my needs and wants.

@Retriever II It blows my mind to think that the MFGG forums were once getting one million posts per year. Even if a good chunk of the posts during the PPP era were barely intelligible, that's a lot of people posting every day. It's even more amazing when you think that IPB-era MFGG was never actively promoted or advertised outside the community, and I think much of the site wasn't even indexed by search engines.

Of course, I also understand why a lot of the admins of that era wanted to favor quality over quantity. Part of me misses the days when MFGG was super-active, although being a smaller, more coherent community also has its perks.

I still find forums to be nice to use. After all, why would I be posting in one otherwise?

It's nice that I can take my time when posting and not worry about missing anything out when I'm away. Also, I like that I can look back on older forum posts, where I can sometimes take notes. I know at least Discord also does that, but I find forums to be more organized and easier to use when looking up something nevertheless.

The MFGG forums right now feel rather slow, and while there are some benefits from that, I think it would be nice if there was more activity around here. I mean, I don't know if it's just me or not, but the forums feel even less active than 2015! For example, the Smash 3DS/Wii U topic has a total of 84 pages (10 of which are made in 2013, the year the game was shown), while the Smash Ultimate topic got only 4 so far and it's been nearly a year since it was announced! Confused

I have tried to increase this forum's activity by starting some topics and giving some topics more attention. However though, if we really wanted to make this place active, then I think it's gonna require more than one person.

tbh everything on forums last longer, so if i post a drawing or something, more people can appreciate it.
but i also like having quick back and forth conversations with other people on discord, so there's that too.
