Uh oh boy uh I'm incredibly boring.
I sorta fell away from here as things started falling apart right after highschool and I mostly had to deal with that for a few years. Otherwise really I've just been a freelance artist for things, nothing glamorous or cool I'm afraid, unimpressive phone games, games that died while being worked on, art for small businesses. Thats mostly all I've done, I sorta wasted ten years really easily.

Man it can be a disheartening feeling.

RE: What've you all done in the 7-10 year gap? - Hyper - 07-23-2019

Well. There are several brief periods of my absence, I am here most of the time in the last 7 years while going through many ups and downs of life. In the past 7 years, I have:
- graduated from high school
- went to the military (US Army, 92A Logistics Specialist)
- went to some trade schools
- got a drivers license on my own
- bought my own car (several times) and learned how to repair vehicles on my own
- financial hardships plus medical bills which resulted bad credit scores
- several depression and possibly PTSD (not too sure about that) after roommate died in front of me from heart attack
- moving up my career pathways (starting from cashier, to phone repair tech, to computer repair tech, to Linux/Windows admin and help desk)
- moved across America several times (lived in Texas, South Dakota, Oklahoma, and Montana)
- and last of all, there's another active user among us who's also my roommate.

EDIT: I am still kicking around, despite of many curve balls life has thrown at me.

lol jesus
  • Graduated from high school, then college (with a Master's in AI)
  • First truly close friendships, first romantic experiences, first heartbreak, first depression
  • Learnt what keys and chord progressions were, finally. I fumbled my way through several MFGG music competitions without knowing!
  • Dabbled in short films for a little bit
  • Started working on my own videogame (first non-fangame ever, actually) and ran a successful Kickstarter campaign
  • Changed the entire artstyle of the game after the Kickstarter (an incredibly controversial decision to this day, despite my best efforts to quench the flames -- read through this ResetEra thread to get an idea of what I'm talking about)
  • Moved to Manhattan to work in finance, for a year and a half
  • Quit finance to pursue game development full-time, three months ago. We'll see if I'm cut out for it, by this time next year!
I just turned 25 a couple months ago, so I'm in full quarter-life crisis mode -- which I'm sure is part of why I'm back here, 3:30AM at night. I didn't realize it until later, but it's absolutely insane that we had 20-25 year olds regularly posting on MFGG, back in the '00s! I can't imagine relating to that board culture now (as it was at the time).

Welcome to the hotel MFGG. You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.

I don't know if he was still around when you were here, but as late as 2005 (the last I can recall), there was a member called RicWeb (later Ric da Koopa) who helped design and make websites. He was over 30 at the time.

Which means if he was still attending to this day, we would have an MFGG member over 40 years old.

I joined in early 2003 but I'm not familiar with that name.

I very vaguely recall the name but I've never met the guy in question.

If you're thinking of the same Web I'm thinking of, he was an entirely different individual. That Web in particular was often confused for Marigi during his first couple of weeks here.

You're thinking of Paper Maruigi/Maruigi, not Marigi.

I specifically remember RicWeb during the whole "Great Kyle Flamewar" shenanigans around early 2002 when I first joined the ezBoard. MFGG had completely imploded and folks had migrated over to his site RFGW for a while until things settled down.

I don't know what happened to the guy after that. :V

I actually had an email address with his zzn domain, that I kept using even after his website was gone, until the email service was no longer a thing.

Between then and now:

-Graduated high school, I think Zeke graduated the year after me cuz younger.
-Met my boyfriend Jameson around 2011, we've been dating since and I frequent Oregon and viceversa. Not a secret both of us have been thinking about marriage but need more time living together and money. Long distance relationships are hard even when they become less distant.
-Struggled through college going in and out due to depression, anxiety, etc. But I did end up going back and studying illustration in the end. I really liked my teachers, they know their stuff and were like a 2nd family.
-Done some freelance work here and there. I recently opened a Patreon too and that's been going okay!

I thought I had more to add.

RE: What've you all done in the 7-10 year gap? - Elyk - 08-04-2019

- Became admin of Minus World and then MFGG
- Quit being admin of MFGG and passed on the torch to mariorocker124
- Graduated university with a bachelor's in computer engineering
- Got a job doing quality assurance on locomotive software
- Got a second job doing game development for a company that primarily does JP->EN game translations and publishing
- Quit the first job to start doing contracted development work on random stuff. I can't go into the details here but last year alone I did work for ~10 clients in wildly different industries so it's pretty interesting and keeps me on my toes.

RE: What've you all done in the 7-10 year gap? - Parakarry - 08-05-2019

I have nothing to show. All I have is social stagnation. A few years ago I got the very rare idea for a game with characters of my own, but that would be a gigantic task.

I've been sitting here posting on MFGG.

Someone has to pick up the slack while you guys are gone!
