I don't know. I don't mind (safe) anthro artwork, and I have a little critter as a ref/mascot. But I don't interact with furry communities or personally identify as one.

It's weird. I don't know how to define it.
Those sort of anthro animal characters are the types of characters that have always appealed to me for years and years. And there are drawings of some characters them that I honestly find very attractive and cute.
But I really don't like all of the serious porn out there.
Especially if it's of actual characters from shows that I watch. I can sort of glance at and ignore thumbnails of creepy drawings of some random characters, but when it's of someone specific that I love from a show, (let's say, one of the FIM ponies I adore), seeing explicit art of them is much less tolerable for me cause I have a real thing with those characters.
I've always considered myself borderline.

It might have contributed? I dunno, I'm only a furry in that I really, really like cute critters above humans. But only in G-rated ways.
I remember really liking some of the non-human characters I've seen here. NO Body and Sponge stand out in my mind. And in this topic, Rage's, Flygon's, Jeff's, FibS', and Parakarry's avatars all make me very happy.
That said, I myself am not furry. I'm hairy though... which is remarkably less charming.
