RE: MF vs. GG - NowhereMan - 03-08-2026 I was hoping for some arcade fightin', Capcom vs. Marvel style, but I didn't find anything on YouTube of these two fightin'. So this will do instead. Mr. Fantastic enters round 2. I rest my case, lol RE: MF vs. GG - NowhereMan - 03-09-2026 ROUND 1: MUSIC FESTIVALS VS THE GOLDEN GLOBES ![]() VERSUS ![]()
RE: MF vs. GG - littlelum - 03-09-2026 Music festivals have music, while golden globes have... spheres of gold? I like music more, so I vote music festivals RE: MF vs. GG - NowhereMan - 03-24-2026 Getting closer to the end of Round 1. Now I have a lot of fond memories of what we call the "music festival". Watching Tom Petty. Watching Dave Matthews. Seeing Jack Johnson perform "The Joker" with Steve Miller Band. You could only see that at a music festival. The iconic music festivals, there are many. Woodstock, from the 60s, and the infamous mud fights and destruction of Woodstock '99. That could only happen at a music festival. The Monterey Pop Festival, also heralding Jimi Hendrix, like Woodstock, giving him an iconic and legendary aura. Coachella, Tomorrowland, Live Aid/Live 8, Ultra Music Festival.... to name a few. The Golden Globes. What is it? It is an awards show for both television and movies, stemming from the 1940s. It's not the Oscars, its not the Grammys. Do you watch The Golden Globes? While it may be viable for viewership, it is for celebrities and their legacy, rather than the fans, which is the music festival. Music festivals are gnarly, The Golden Globes is a television event. Let's be honest, I doubt any of us MFGGers attend The Golden Globes. I can't name an "iconic" moment from the awards show without looking it up. Like I said, it's not the Oscars, it's not the Grammys. And it is not The MTV Music Awards. ![]() So I give this one to the madness of that which is Woodstock '99. RE: MF vs. GG - NowhereMan - 04-17-2026 ROUND 1: Martin Freeman versus Gilbert Gottfried ![]() VERSUS ![]()
RE: MF vs. GG - NowhereMan - 04-18-2026 What I know about Martin Freeman, is he was the "Jim" of the British The Office, also the Hobbit I think, a story I loved as a child, but never actually seen the movies, I should do that. What I know about Gilbert Gottfried, is the principal or something, in Problem Child 2 (I think it was the second one?) and the voice of Iago from Aladdin. Also as a commentator on vh1 styled shows from the 2000s (not to get specific). Let us take a look at their Wikipedia pages. Martin Freeman is a close friend to Simon Pegg, makes sense. Quote:Freeman is a fan of soul, Motown and jazz music, and presented an episode of BBC Two's The Culture Show in 2009 titled "Martin Freeman Goes to Motown". He also selected music for a 2006 Motown compilation, Made to Measure, and worked on a jazz compilation with his friend Eddie Piller, Jazz on the Corner; released on Acid Jazz Records on 23 March 2018, it features tracks by Kamasi Washington and The Brand New Heavies. The pair presented The Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show on 31 March 2018. In 2019, a follow-up album, Soul on the Corner, was announced, with tracks by Leroy Hutson and Bobby Womack. He is also a fan of jazz music, like myself. He also played Arthur Dent on Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Yes, he was Bilbo Baggins, on The Hobbit series, beautiful. Other than some minor roles of some movies I like, I haven't seen a whole lot of his filmography. Seems like a likeable guy tho. Alrite.... Gilbert Gottfried. First of all, Gilbert Gottfried died on April 12, 2022, a a week or so after the anniversary of his death, 4 years later. May he rest in peace. If anybody knows the face of Gilbert Gottfried, then you can also probably hear the voice as well, in the back of your head. Very annoying lol. Anyways. Oh, Problem Child (the first one), the second one, and the third one. One of my childhood memories. Aladdin. Always a classic. vh1's I Love Toys. Bravo's 100 Scariest Movie Moments. When I was scouring the old MFGG message board for my old posts, I made a topic about this show, asking MFGG members what they thought about the list. For example, the Willy Wonka tunnel scene was in there, and another movie, I don't remember which one, but we were discussing if these scenes were scary (they were, technically). The rest of the moments seemed like they fit in with the "scary movie" themes. Gottfried has a huge list of voices and cameos in tv shows from Family Guy to The Ren and Stimpy Show. He also reprised his role for Iago (Kingdom Hearts, sequels, animated series), unlike big movie star Robin Williams (the genie). Also was in commercials. So we probably all know him (the older members anyway). But most importantly he is a comedian, which was probably his "title" on vh1 and the Bravo show. Gilbert Gottfried, Comedian. He has albums of his performances. I thought I was going to pick Martin Freeman (more starring roles, but yet, British, so I don't know much of his films), but I am going to move Gottfried to the next round for being more dynamic. ![]() Edit: the other scary movie was The Wizard of Oz, in contrast to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (Scary Movie Moments) RE: MF vs. GG - NowhereMan - 04-20-2026 ROUND ONE: MOUNT FUJI VERSUS THE GOLDEN GATE ![]() vs. ![]()
RE: MF vs. GG - NowhereMan - 04-21-2026 We playing a point game today, the points do matter!!!!! Wikipedia as source.
Total points: 24 (Just one Wikipedia page) ![]()
Total points: 11 (& and that's an accumulation of two Wikipedia pages, Golden Gate and Golden Gate Bridge) Mount Fuji wins this round. Edit: I would not want to live in a world without the Golden Gate Bridge, but also Mount Fuji is natural, not man-made! (like Golden Gate as is) RE: MF vs. GG - NowhereMan - 04-25-2026 Magdalena Frackowiak vs. Go-Go... Dancers? ![]() VERSUS ![]()
