RE: Paper Mario: The Star Princess - PaperMarioLover - 09-07-2026 Update #25 So, this is sort of an update. Updates have been slow guys, but that's because I am working on Mario's next level (or I should say, the next town, and then the next level). Before I get into the actual update, I want to stress to you the importance that my game happens between the events in Paper Mario 64 and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. There's only one character that isn't part of Paper Mario 64 lore and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, but all the other characters are characters you're already familiar with. So keep that in mind when you play. Oh, and....Mario meets 3 very familiar faces in this new town (if you played Thousand Year Door, you'll see what I mean.). But keep in mind, all of these characters and all of these events, basically came off of both Paper Mario 64 and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, with a few fairly new things. Some of the things that you've seen in the videos are just nods to other Mario games. Like for example, in the Bowser Gameplay I showed you, it shows Bowser's Castle looking like the Castle you would've seen in older Mario games (but instead of it being brown, it's white, but that was a personal choice). But that's just a nod off to what Bowser's Castle looked like in the really older games. That and I thought it was kind of funny, since Bowser's this big sprite and his Castle door is smaller than him lol. But, since updates have been slow, I've decided to do a deep dive into the character of Princess Peach. In this game, Peach wrestles a lot with the fact that she's always getting kidnapped or something is happening to her. And so, she feels that she has to prove that she's not the damsel in distress everyone says she is. But I feel like this storyline about a woman wanting to prove that she's not some damsel in distress isn't very original. This isn't to say that women aren't strong, or even weak, that's not at all what I'm trying to say. But, it has been a long time since I've seen a woman come into her power. I want to show a side to a female hero that you don't see much anymore. See Peach is very powerful, but her power doesn't come from her strength or her determination. No her power comes from her softness and her heart. In today's world, women are no longer looked upon as damsel's in distress. Which is a beautiful thing, we've come very far as a society. And women shouldn't ever be looked upon as weaker or not having enough strength. But, something I wish would happen is to bring back the beauty of feminine qualities. There's beauty and even strength in being soft. There's beauty and strength in being loving. There's beauty and strength in being feminine. In a world that has fallen for this lie that "It's a man's world", we're losing qualities that the divine feminine has. We're losing the heart of many homes, and we're losing that love that knows how to not only tame but strengthen any bond that is essentially broken. And, I hope that message comes across in my game, that there's real power and real strength in the feminine. Peach's power comes from the strength within her heart and her love for her friends and loved ones. I know that might sound corny, but it's time to bring back softness and love. It's time to bring back vulnerability and compassion. It's time to have women come into their power as the Goddess they are! And I hope I can do that justice. My goal is to make Peach a loving force to be reckoned with. Cause without a feminine touch, the world is forever lost. -Jake (Paper Mario: The Star Princess Game Developer) RE: Paper Mario: The Star Princess - PaperMarioLover - 09-08-2026 Update #26 Hello everyone! Here's another short update for you all. I'm at work currently and I'm trying to be patient with Claude. I could've had the town done and move onto the level part, but of course Claude decided to blank out on me, which happens quite a bit when you use Visual Studio for Claude Code. So needless to say, the novel I was giving Claude basically went away so I'm having to redo the next town. But I thought I would share something interesting. So sometimes, I'll look at other search engines and type in my game, just to see how well I'm doing as far as where I'm at. Apparently Bing's A.I. (which I assume is Copilot) has picked up on my game. Look at what Bing says about my game: ![]() I'm glad it's getting some traction. Rather it get traction then to not get any traction. I kind of dislike how Bing revealed too much information, but it is what it is. Sad that Bing hasn't caught onto the fact that Bowser gets his own story. Oh well, A.I. can't always be reliable. RE: Paper Mario: The Star Princess - wik_25 - 09-09-2026 I find it hard to believe for me that a human wrote all of this as well as the story. You won't get far with this. You’re posting hollow devlogs and you're constantly making excuses about using ai. Nice "game" you got here RE: Paper Mario: The Star Princess - PaperMarioLover - 09-10-2026 (09-09-2026, 08:36 AM)wik_25 Wrote: I find it hard to believe for me that a human wrote all of this as well as the story. You won't get far with this. You’re posting hollow devlogs and you're constantly making excuses about using ai. Nice "game" you got here Then it would be best for you to not play it! I'm not here to make sure you're happy. This is just for fun, it's really not that serious. I'm not here to make any money, I'm not here to win someone over. I had an idea for many years that I could not properly execute. If you are a game developer and this is what you do to get food on the table then that's wonderful. This is just a hobby. And really, I don't want people like you to play my game. Cause all you would do is find flaw after flaw after flaw, and it wouldn't do anything for you. And that's fine, my game isn't for everyone and that's ok. That's the beauty of being hueman, you're not obligated to make anyone happy, cause at the end of the day the only person you need to worry about is yourself. When I first started making this game, I'm not going to lie, I was a little hesistant. I even remember talking to a friend about it and my friend made a good point. He said "There's always going to be someone out there who's going to find fault with anything you do. Don't worry about those people. It's a hobby, it's something you like to do." Right now, I'm trying to get my car fixed while at the same time trying to juggle responsibilities here at home. And I agree, the devlogs have become very hollow. But once again, this is just a hobby. If I was serious about making this more than a hobby, then I would do things differently. I have a wonderful job that I get to go to that pays me to basically do what I want to do and get paid for it. It's like owning your own business without the strain of the responsibilities that come with owning your own business. And no, my job has nothing to do with A.I. I'm a manager where I work, and there is no A.I. being used. However, thanks for the feedback, I do honor any and all feedback, even if it is negative. Right now I have a lot on my plate, and there are some things that I'd rather not share, not because I don't want to, but the whole point of playing a videogame is for some things to be a surprise. And this next town and level is somewhat vital to the storyline and I'd rather not share too much. This is just a hobby, hence why these devlogs aren't interesting. I have a life outside of making this game, and right now I don't have time to make anything "interesting" at the moment. Development is going to be slow, and that's just the way it is. I will say you are not the first one who has made it known to me that my game is going to bomb, but again...this is for fun. I'm sorry, my life does not revolve around videogames and making videogames. I have a j-o-b that I go to to make my money, and I work hard for my money. And it is not up to you, nor is it up to anyone else how I decide to spend my money. I am one person, making a game that has all sorts of things that I'm not good at doing, and I have absolutely no problem admitting that. I don't know how to animate, I don't know how to code, I don't know how to make pretty sprites, I don't know how to do a lot of these things. The one thing I know how to do, and be somewhat good at, is Photoshop. That's about it. And, I have just one more thing to say. I have been a part of many artistic endeavors. In high school, I was involved in being an actor in many plays. I was involved in my high school's chamber choir. I took an art class at one point. I've sung for a very well-renowned group that travels all around the U.S. every year and have sung at some very prestigious venues. When I was growing up, all I wanted to do for the rest of my life is be a singer. I wanted to sing about anything and everything. But realistically, there's like a 1 in 1,000th chance that I'd be successful at it. So, the next thing I thought about was going in for Graphic Design. I was somewhat handy with Photoshop, so I thought why not? And due to certain circumstances, not even that was going to work out. Every single time I have been surrounded by other artists, whether it's a group of people who are good at painting, or good at drawing, or good at singing, or good at acting, or whatever the case may be, it is not only so cliquey but these people are some of the most toxic groups of people I have ever hung around with. And I say hung around with very loosely, because I only hung around these people when we would sing or when we would act or draw, etc... But any form of contact outside of what it was I was involved in, I always made sure to never hang around those people and get close to those people. It always seemed like to me that these people have no actual people skills, and some of these people were so unhinged that I would actively avoid these people as much as I could. Yeah, I might have to sing next to them, I might have to draw next to them, I might have to act next to them, but I kept to myself most of the time. And the funniest part is, I wasn't really surprised. I was born with a certain condition, and because I was born with this particular condition, I learned from a very young age, that there's a lot of superficial people out there. I'd rather not air all my dirty laundry online, but let's just say this condition I have is noticeable. There's also a lot of people who have no problem going up to you and say "You realize you have this condition right?" It's gotten so bad that, at the age of 37 9.99 times out of 10, I can literally peg down if someone is worth approaching or getting to know. Because of this condition I have, I have learned to simply observe people, and sadly people have become predictable. It's so bad that it takes hardly nothing to know how a person is going to act. I blame some of this on the system we live in. In this system, especially in America, the system tends to appeal to ego. Yes, here in America we have a lot of freedoms, and unfortunately since the system appeals to ego, and because we are constantly being exposed to, what I call, hyper-individuality, ego tends to be most people's default way of being. And because that has become the norm, whenever something doesn't go someone else's way, because of the way the system works and that the collective has bought into "The customer is always right," you have a bunch of people using and abusing that phrase. People on this part of the planet literally cannot stand any sort of inconvenience, even if it is minor. We're basically raising a bunch of people who operate solely on ego, and ego is all about dividing and conquering. It's about self-satisfaction. People here wouldn't know what an ego death actually is, nor does that appeal to anyone anyways, because it would entail holding yourself accountable to every decision you make, and people on this part of the planet don't want to be held self-accountable. They want to be able to fit-in, they want to be able to be friends with supermodels and superficiality as a way of life. And, in the big grand scheme of things, none of that actually matters. None of it. It's nothing but a temporary thing. So again, thank you for the feedback, and don't worry. I will make sure to spare you of this A.I. slop of a game. All I have to do is mess with the privacy settings. No problem! Thank you for your time. So it has been brought to my attention that my devlogs aren't "exciting" or "interesting." And, I'm glad this has been brought to my attention, cause now that I go back and read my devlogs, it started off as cool, but as time went on, it has gotten a bit boring and unexciting. I thought that I could do an update every week, but I see that I'm running out of what to talk about LOL! But that's ok, I'm a beginner at all of this, I'm not a professional and I'm just trying to navigate this the best way I can. So from now on, when I do an update, I will try to make it a bit more interesting. Something I struggle with is I ramble, and I do this not just here but in my personal life as well. My devlogs have become a Seinfeld episode, a show about nothing haha! So, I've decided to try to do a devlog and be somewhat interesting. I thought once a week was feasible, but I am experiencing a bit of burnout. That's not to say that I throw in the towel, but this week in particular has been busy and when I come home from work, I'm sleeping. It's hard to do an update during the day cause I work at night, and my sleeping pattern has been thrown off. So I will try to do another update when I have more fun things to share with you all, but right now I have nothing. Thank you and I hope to have something to show you when I advance further into the game. Thanks for listening. -Jake (Game Developer for Paper Mario: The Star Princess |
