On an interesting note, I met Quickman/Quicky/pdk in person at ReplayFX this year. It was his first time going and he brought his friend with him. He was pretty cool and we actually hung out Saturday and Sunday. Pictures when I can bother to get them off my phone.

Hey man, you can eat a whole elephant one bite at a time. Might be worth it to try it out even if it's a lot of work.

It's not been fun at all. There have been plenty of friends parting ways, deaths and tragedies in my life, more than enough for one person to go through. As a result you bet my mental health took a swan dive off the edge of a cliff and I succumbed to the most vast, thick depression. Also my knees make grinding sounds and cause me pain so not only was I in pain mentally, I had the physical too. I was depressed and my legs hurt so I didn't feel like I could go anywhere... So that's been fun- I've tried all kinds of different painkillers and medications, most recently I've been sent to the pain clinic to get a prescription for CBD oil.

So late last year I finally had enough of feeling powerless, I thought back on all the things I used to enjoy, and making games came to the forefront of my mind. I wasn't happy with the way I used to approach that (Sorry Clickteam, I love you guys but...) so I began sitting down and taking the actual time to learn how to program. I'm still learning! I'm taking courses in C++/C# with the eventual aim of landing a place at University, hopefully next year.
But In sum, things are fine for me now, more or less. My depression comes back in from time to time, like a stray cat coming through an open window. Just gotta pick that sucker up and throw it back outside. I feel like I'm a few years behind everyone else because of what I've had to deal with, but instead of feeling sorry for myself anymore, I'm getting myself back on track without worrying about just how successful everyone else is. Smile Life moves in one direction- forward. So I now follow it instead of feeling like I'm standing still, I guess.

I ain't done s***! Angry

Like Retro, I've seen a lot of death in my life. It doesn't help that the Internet age allows us to not only see all the (curated, carefully marketed) bad news in our country, but everybody else's country too.

So I've been way too depressed to make any Beautiful Things except a buttload of furry porn, that's about it. At least my art's improved, arguably.

And in the process you may discover that you don't need to eat the whole elephant.

Like, the inside of the butthole, you can probably skip eating that.

I also have a Dream Project that I might never get around to. I guess we're all running our wheels in the mud, eh?

RE: What've you all done in the 7-10 year gap? - Pedigree - 08-08-2019

Moved out on my own, moved to Illinois then to Las Vegas then to Denver. Been travelling and going to furry cons. Got my GED, drivers license, have had several supervisor positions in retail. Been happily in a relationship with my boyfriend for 8 years.

Have three ferrets: Bowser, Cinnamon and Elon Musk.

That's probably about it. I still game and draw in my free time sometimes.

-Formerly known as SonicProject btw.

Like many, life has been a rollercoaster.

I went through university and that was around the time I disappeared totally from MFGG, circa 2012. I didn't finish, but I got through the majority of my Graphic Design courses. It was fun and bizarre and pretty wild at times (like many modern college experiences) but I met some wonderful people and saw some radical changes in society throughout that time that I still am kinda scratching my head over. Mostly I got to know myself, I became comfortable in my sense of identity (came out as bi to most of my intimate friends) and saw a lot of people I grew up with both on and off the internet come out of their shells into themselves in a similar way that has been extremely encouraging for me. It goes without saying that the online communities i still scarcely participate in have been instrumental in helping me understand myself and other people struggling with similar issues too.

Personally, I've been through a lot. I have struggled a lot emotionally and financially and with sustaining long term friendships, and have had a rocky but successful relationship with my parents who split last year and now live by myself (with roommates) in my home country, for now. I have been working in outsourcing (that's quite popular in the Latin Americas) and it's been an OK experience, but it's very hard to go back to my home country after having been abroad for so many years. I struggle to feel like I identify with anyone at all here, but that's ok, because I focus mostly on art and music, which have always been my passions outside of / relating to videogames.

I moved around the world a lot, about 3 times since my graduation was supposed to happen. I did a few odd jobs here and there, some longer than others. Struggling with really intense depressive episodes, I was diagnosed eventually with a couple of comorbid depression-related disorders, the main one I still struggle with being ADHD. I was medicated for a bit but that didn't work so now I just breathe coffee instead, which seems to work OK. I try to keep tabs on myself, hold myself accountable and be responsible (moved out last year on my own on a whim and it's improved my relationship with my family tenfold) but it's a struggle, every day.

I've tried to come back to MFGG more often since I was summoned back, and I'm glad to say I see many names I recognize and I'm still lurking more than I'd like. It's nice to be back though, and though I have so many things going on that my head is constantly in a daze I feel grateful to be part of the community again. (:

what does anything amount to if you still are doing fangames for 8+ years and haven't released a single thing one can be proud of?

IRL, I graduated high school in 2014 and I graduated college this very year already.

RE: What've you all done in the 7-10 year gap? - Pedigree - 08-10-2019

Maybe you should do simpler projects and just release something to curb that feeling, S.

You don't have to have all the assets commissioned either, just reuse assets and get something done for a change.

This and that, ups and downs, what-have-yous.

But seriously, it's largely been your typical boring life stuff. In and out of jobs, meeting people, maybe the odd bit of therapy. Like I said, life stuff.

I'd say the most relevant thing I've been doing for a while is running a retro game stream with my brother. Unfortunately because of my brother's work schedule it's tough to get more than one day a week where it's the both of us, but I'm still holding down the fort myself the rest of the week: https://www.twitch.tv/withchrisandkeith/

Edit: Oh yeah, almost forgot I also ran a little youtube channel completely stealing the idea from Classics of Game, where I posted out of context clips of weird video game moments and/or with my own weird edits to them. I still update it occasionally but not as often as I used to: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzq399aLaJWyK6ey9ArS4_w

RE: What've you all done in the 7-10 year gap? - CGWorks - 08-10-2019

Finished super mario bros odyssey ch.1 not long after graduation from high school in 2012 and started at a community college, and changed majors from physical therapy to computer information systems after 2 years. Struggled through my classes, and moved onto to a bigger university after switching majors to computer engineering in 2014. Performed abysmally at this new university and failed all my classes during 2015 and questioned whether I was smart enough for college and returned to the community college because high school didn't prepare me for college life. I became a furry during that time, and I learned how to study and prepare better and started getting my grades back up.

I also began work on my current game project - a pokemon fangame called Relics of Creation, which I'm still working on. Then smash bros for the wii u came out and by 2017 I was a regional threat as a solo lucario player. I returned to the bigger university in 2017 and changed majors to computer science and my grades have been on a steady climb upwards since. Smash bros ultimate came out and I still play competitively, but my skill has dropped significantly due to having 2 extremely busy and stressful semesters full of schoolwork that have severely limited my practice time.

Nowadays i'm doing pretty good. My mindset is a lot clearer and i have better control of my emotions, and i'm pretty optimistic about the future.

Realized I'm bi. Started dating Roo. Moved to NZ and studied animation production. Moved back home and worked as an art teacher for a year. Felt really bad for a long time. Realized that hey that's dysphoria and hey all those gender feelings I've had all my life might mean that I'm trans. Started transitioning. Started to feel less bad. Started studying to be a librarian. Realized I'm polyamorous and started dating Eliora and Rain [who you all on here don't know of]. Started painting again because hey it's easier to do that when you don't have gender dysphoria draining you of motivation to do things you want to do.

I grew old... around 7 or 10 years.

I have a son now, I skipped the tutorials and used cheat codes so he came into my life at the age of 8.

How the hell did you manage that? Isn't adoption obstructed with red tape?

I know some people around MFGG who pulled some strings to accomplish my adoption goals.

Just kidding, not "legally" my son yet but whenever (Soon) my fiance and I get married it will make the adoption process easier.

Also, there's been death, misery and sadness in my life during the past 7-10 years.
However, it seems you guys have shared plenty of those memories and personally I believe it wouldn't be fair of me to share mine.

I'd like to give you all a break from that until the next memember shares their story.

I'm just glad we can all come around a forum 10 years later and be like "Hey, even after all that we are still around and still kicking".

Hope everyone's lives get better and keep going, you are all awesome.
