It feels like only yesterday I was ten years old hocking a lazy edit of the Hello Mario SMB1 engine with background assets recolored Pepto-Bismol-pink and calling it "Super Mario Bros. World".
I don't really come here anymore other than just to lurk and be nostalgic sometimes and I think I've kinda grown apart from this place, but like, it'll always have a special place in my heart. MFGG was super formative for me, for better or for worse, and some of my longest standing friendships started on here. And I really appreciate it being kind of a breeding ground for kids interested in making games. I almost see it as like an indie gamedev equivalent of like, Second City or something. I really hope everyone still hanging out here goes on to do great things. There was that guy who did something or other with peoples' Wiis and then went on to make some hat game. Idk
Anyway, happy 20th MFGG.

I may be distant from this community, but damn 20 years is a long time when it comes to Internet standards. I should also mention that although this community and I may not always see eye-to-eye on many discussions, what I can see is a community that is passionate about making fan games of the Mario cast and recontextualizing them with their own creative twists, as evidenced by the hundreds of fangames hosted on the mainsite and more that were posted in the various iterations of the forums.
Happy birthday, MFGG. Stay strong, and I do hope you continue to be a place for fangames that people can be interested in playing and making.

I don't remember exactly when I found MFGG, but it was early enough to be blindsided by it being removed from emulationzone in '03. I still keep in touch with many of the people I've met here way back when. Happy 20 years.

I first joined the mainsite 10 years ago, but I was aware of MFGG for longer. Does that make me an oldbie?
There have been ups and downs, but 20 years for any online community is nothing to scoff at. It really is remarkable that MFGG has persisted in some form 'till today.
Here's to hoping the "Nintendo hates fangames" narrative dies before this site does.
I should also acknowledge that MFGG gave me an outlet for social interaction when I didn't really have one. I used to be very awkward - most of the older members that were active on phpbb can attest to that - but between the forums, Skype and Discord offshoots, maybe MFGG played a small part in me becoming more comfortable with myself and being in social situations!
I've also made lasting friendships here and met some cool opportunities. I co-founded the largest active Pikmin server back in 2016, which is still active today, and I wouldn't have gotten into the music I love if my friends hadn't introduced me to it.
So, thanks to the members who populate MFGG! There wouldn't be a site without a member base.

A bit late to the party, but wow...20 entire years on the internet (maybe even more if you factor in Bowser Technologies). How can it feel like no time at all has passed yet so much time has at the same time? :V
Even if I'm nowhere near as active around these parts as I used to be back in the day, I owe an awful lot to this place. It's the first community I would upload my own games to, it's a place where I've made some of my longest-running friends on the internet, and my first commercial indie game certainly wouldn't be anywhere near what it is now if it weren't for one of the competitions held here way back in the day!
I'm very proud that the community has been able to keep itself going strong after all this time. Managing and growing an entire community for even one year is a pretty big undertaking, so major kudos to the current staff for keeping things strong.
Happy (Late) 20th Anniversary, MFGG! Hope it was a fun one for everyone here.
