RE: Super Mario Bros. & The Midas Machine (Formerly Superb Demo Sisters & A Midas Thing) - GStache - 06-07-2018

They've stated several times that there's not a whole lot left to the game, but even so I don't expect a date anytime soon, since they haven't even done beta-testing yet. We haven't seen much cuz of spoilers it seems.

Also, considering how large the game is, it will take quite some time to make sure everything is correct in order for release. Still excited tho.

Basically what GStache said. I feel terrible about not updating this much anymore, but I want to leave some surprises for players to discover. As it stands, the levels are basically finished, and once we get the remaining enemies and bosses in, we will start beta testing.

Unknown right now, we'll make that call when the time comes.

RE: Super Mario Bros. & The Midas Machine (Formerly Superb Demo Sisters & A Midas Thing) - chaoxys - 07-19-2018

So, as I've been saying, I can't show anything with what I'm working on, however I will give some details. Simply put, I'm making the final level of the game, which I think I mentioned earlier, but I don't remember, and I can't be bothered to check. This level is roughly 20 times larger than an average level in the game. It's also using a LOT of new tiles made just for it, in fact, this level has had me create nearly 700 new unique tiles, and I'll just say it, theres a certain set of them that I am really proud of as the effect they pull of is, not to toot my own horn, rather beautiful. The level over all has a much different vibe from the grand final levels you see in recent Mario titles. Thats not to say anything on it's difficulty, but more so the vibe I'm trying to make it give off to the player. Long story short, I'm trying to make it a grand reward for those who put in the time to unlock it, and I want it to feel good to play, not just in terms of gameplay, but almost on an emotional level.

RE: Super Mario Bros. & The Midas Machine (Formerly Superb Demo Sisters & A Midas Thing) - RetroRespecter - 07-25-2018

Does that mean that the game is close to being finished?

RE: Super Mario Bros. & The Midas Machine (Formerly Superb Demo Sisters & A Midas Thing) - chaoxys - 07-25-2018

Kinda. We are still finishing up things like bosses and making sure everything connects on the maps and what not. I'm also going through levels and linking rooms together, making sure all the item blocks work, and checking checkpoints to make sure they all function as intended. That said, the levels are mostly finished, minus a few that still need specific enemies added into them that we don't currently have, and one that I had to drop due to technical reasons, so I have to remake it at some point.

How did you make this game? Did you make level after level or did you plan it all out? You said you made the final level last, so I'm assuming you went level by level? I'm curious just for designs sake. I really want to k ow how to make a large scale game like this.

Honestly, I mainly went in the general order of levels, but more often than not, Guinea would pop on skype and be like "Hey, I added (enemy) into the engine", or "I added that tileset you made into the level editor", and then I'd basically jump to working on whatever level could use those new resources. The main reason I'm making the final level last is because, due to the nature of the level, I'd have to (trust me, it'll make so much more sense when you all see it).

Honestly, theres still a couple more levels I have to make, although they are generally planned out, I just need the items for them first.

I am just utterly amazed that this project is still in development and has never really halted before. You see so many big projects like this come to a stop at some point, but this one is still going stron, from the looks of it.
Props to you, Chaoxys and Guinea for being so determined and passionate.
This is going to turn out great! ^^

RE: Super Mario Bros. & The Midas Machine (Formerly Superb Demo Sisters & A Midas Thing) - chaoxys - 08-02-2018

Glad to see that theres still so much anticipation for this. Well, don't worry, pretty much any free time I have has been going to working on this game, so progress is constantly being made.

On that note, earlier I said that I wasn't aiming on the final level being super hard... well, it wasn't my aim, but it seems to be happening regardless. I can't say too much without spoiling the main gimmick of the level, but lets just say that various elements are working together in ways I really didn't expect, resulting in some fun combinations.

Oh my, I'm getting mega-thrilled for whenever this comes out... Time doesn't matter, good things can't be rushed.

RE: Super Mario Bros. & The Midas Machine (Formerly Superb Demo Sisters & A Midas Thing) - chaoxys - 08-22-2018

Hey, just a heads up, but if anyone wants to work on some songs for the game, please send me a PM, we have a number of songs we still need made if anyone has some time.

RE: Super Mario Bros. & The Midas Machine (Formerly Superb Demo Sisters & A Midas Thing) - chaoxys - 08-26-2018

So I wasn't planning on showing this at first, but... eh. First off, no, this is NOT a part of the grand final level I've been making. Basically, I've been going back and tweaking older levels, especially earlier levels in the game to twist them up so people who played the demos will still be able to find new things. On top of that, I'm adding some new secret areas and exits related to the bonus world, but I'll go into that some other time (mainly because parts of these changes are still up in the air on whether they will be in the final version or not).

People who played the demo may already know what level this new room appears in based on the elements in it.

RE: Super Mario Bros. & The Midas Machine (Formerly Superb Demo Sisters & A Midas Thing) - Q-Nova - 08-26-2018

I remember when I was visiting this game's site and looking at the various trailers for the game. I have yet to play any demos for this game, but that's because I want the game to feel all new to me and I don't want any roadblocks. It's great to hear that progress is going smoothly, especially when it seems to be almost done! What you have said about the final level sounds really interesting, I'll be looking forward to unlocking and playing that!

Anyway, for your latest post, what you've shown in the screenshot looks neat; I like what you put onto those pillars. Thumbs Up Keep going on this project, I'm really looking forward to the day this game is released!

I love the amount of dedication put into this. You're even doing things so people who know what to expect WILL be surprised anyway. Needless to say, I'm in high hopes for this game, it sounds it'll be marvelous.(And considering characters, each level most likely will have four different playthroughs. Won't be surprised if a stage has four different paths, or needs all four to be done to be fully completed). Other Big Brin

Honestly, I took a different approach when designing the levels. Originally, I wanted to make it so to get the full experience, you'd have to play as all 4 characters, but considering the number of levels, that would be insane. Instead, most levels have a standard path, but there will be little side paths and bonuses, but nothing major enough to require you to play through 4 times (Not counting replays for secret exits and what not). Basically, I wanted to keep it fun and avoid any risk of it being too tedious.

That said, there are some neat little secrets and shortcuts hidden in some levels that require specific characters, and I look forward to seeing if anyone can find them.
