Originally, I wanted to make it so to get the full experience, you'd have to play as all 4 characters, but considering the number of levels, that would be insane. Instead, most levels have a standard path, but there will be little side paths and bonuses, but nothing major enough to require you to play through 4 times (Not counting replays for secret exits and what not). Basically, I wanted to keep it fun and avoid any risk of it being too tedious.

That said, there are some neat little secrets and shortcuts hidden in some levels that require specific characters, and I look forward to seeing if anyone can find them.

And here I was wondering about ONE stage that had that idea on. Still, doesn't change my opinion. ^-^ And I'm already hyped, just imagining how someone will try to speedrun the game by combining characters' advantages through stages and bosses alike. Speaking of the latter, that's what's making me all the more hyped I can be! Considering all gimmicks, I'm expecting tricky and unexpected confrontations. And seeing everything pictured, there's pretty much a reason to the high expectations. ^-^

Can't wait to see the character interactions as the plot progresses. We don't see the Mario Bros and the Wario "Bros" interact much outside of the spin-off titles, and we haven't seen captain Syrup since Wario Land: Shake It, so as a fan of all of these characters, I'm hyped.

I know, right? Getting hyped for the story of a Mario game? Weird. But I'm weird, so deal with it. Laughing

Not a major thing but heres one of... 10 new rooms I've been making. Btw, for anyone curious about these new rooms, I'll just go and say it, they are linked to a setup that will allow players to essentially quick travel between world maps.

Needless to say, that looks lovely. I'm getting a "Honey, I shrunk the kids!" vibe because of the giant fence in the background, along with everything being... Huge.

Yeah, that does look very nice. It looks like Waluigi is being chased by something, although in the second screenshot it looks more like a race. Confused This quick travel thing sounds rather interesting, it sounds like it will be something like the Rogueport Sewers from PM:TTYD.

Bit of a change of pace from my recent updates, but while I was going back through levels and adding in those new segments, I noticed that one specific level was REALLY janky, so I went back and remade it from scratch. Some of you may recognize bits and pieces from a level I posted a long time ago, this is the new version of said level, now with 100% less eye bleed inducing puke green bg elements. I've also given the level more of a defined gimmick compared to the original version.

Paragoombas jump just before you get to them, so you have to time things correctly.

Parakoopas hop too high to jump over effectively while dashing, so you'll have to pick when to jump over and enemy, or when to run under them.

Idk, I just like those platforms.

I like how the spiked enemies give more reason to use Wario. Hopefully that's scattered throughout the game!

I don't think I've seen this level before, but it looks pretty good to me! Thumbs Up I like the aesthetics. It seems that it's an auto-runner level with Mario getting burned (if so, then poor Mario!).

@Couch Tomato Yeah, as long as spiked enemies aren't too abundant (to the point where Wario is pretty much the only viable character besides getting certain collectibles), I agree that having a decent number of said enemies give Wario more of a purpose.

Might want to update the topic title - it's been a while since we've had our April Foolish fun, so I don't think anyone will mistake this for Superb Demo Sisters & A Midas Thing!

Captain Toad wasn't added in time to be in the demo, so he'll only be in the main game.

As a seperate note, I'm sorry to everyone for the lack of updates. I've finished almost everything I can personally work on for the game, so there isn't too much left I can show that isn't spoiler territory.

I'm afraid there currently isn't a release date. That said, the levels and graphics are basically finished, so it's a matter of getting everything put together in the engine and working out the bugs.

RE: Super Mario Bros. & The Midas Machine - HellJumper - 01-12-2019

I know I sound like a broken record at this point, but this game has me seriously excited.

Just from the demo, I know I love the custom art style, the good level design, how each character brings something new to the table, the dialogue and characterization, creative world/level names and themes, the awesome soundtrack, and the creative boss battles which are better than most boss battles in official Mario games.

This game has been a huge inspiration to me, and I can't wait to finally play it in its finished state and show all my friends, who are oblivious to this games existence, and love 2D Mario platformers. Keep working at it! It'll pay off in the end.
