I found a way to play wii games online without hacking/modding your wii - littlelum - 06-16-2018
While browsing youtube I came upon this:
Unfortunatley, this doesn't work on wii u, only on the wii. I tested it out and it works, however, you with most games you may have trouble finding an opponent.

Just note that this includes private rooms, however Mario kart Wii is popular enough where you can find an opponent in a public room.

@Mario I mean by it doesn't work on wii mode on the wii u because it doesn't have the internet channel
@Slug101 I mean that Since Nintendo shut down their server you can't play wii games online anymore. With this it is possible to play them online again without hacking into the wii

If you do have a modded Wii, however, there's an app that allows you to auto-patch games to use the new server. Very useful!
