Music Competition #5 - Old Meets New - GamerInGeorgia - 07-25-2018

The Music Comp's been out for a while so I, as runner-up of the last Music Comp, am going to jump-start it. The theme this time is to combine chip-tune and natural instruments in harmony to create music that sounds retro and modern at the same time. Here are the rules:
1. You must have a chip-tune "instrument" playing in the song. Chip-tune drums don't count.
2. You must have a natural (or natural-sounding) instrument playing in the song. Drum kits (and natural-sounding percussion) don't count.
3. Try to have the chip-tune and natural instruments playing at the same time.
4. Entries must be at least 30 seconds long and less than 5 minutes in length to qualify.
5. Both remixes and compositions are accepted.
Have fun! Ends Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at around midnight!

Four days left!

RE: Music Competition #5 - Old Meets New - Q-Nova - 09-12-2018

Is this competition still going on or is it over? I know it didn't get any entries, but it's a nice theme and it doesn't seem to get much notice at all (it wasn't even in the announcements box on the index page).

There aren't many musicians on MFGG anymore (and arguably, we never had nearly as many as other types of artists on the site historically - but not to this ridiculous degree), and as a whole MFGG activity has been on the decline. I've been busy with other projects and collaborations to actually contribute to these music comps anymore - other than that, I also wasn't even aware there was a new competition going on the last month or so.

Doesn't help I haven't been really active at all much these days. Not much incentive to.

@Vitiman I'd also like to point out that this competition was never featured in the announcements box in the index page at all (as I said in my previous post on this topic) and it seems that people just left it buried under other topics, making it hold little notice as a result. I will not deny, though, that there hasn't been much musicians (the only ones that at least visit this site every once in a while and come to my mind are you, AquaTheYoshi, and GamerInGeorgia) and activity overall on MFGG has been low lately.

It might be nice to see more activity on this site and it could happen one day if we all work to help with that (though, that would be something to discuss in its own topic rather than here), however. For music, I've actually been doing some stuff related to that lately, although all I've shown here is a few songs in Go! Go! Gooble!! and it's been quite some time since I did stuff with a synthesizer for making music. I even had something in mind for this competition, but didn't have the motivation to do it.

Well, I did make an entry for this, but I never remembered to put it here. So here's what I made:

That sounds nice, GamerInGeoriga! Anyway, I have tried to look for chiptune instruments, but it's quite harder than I thought it would be. All I've found so far seem to be either drum sounds (which don't count according to the OP), don't sound like chiptune, or don't fit what I'm thinking about. So, I was wondering where did you get your chiptune instruments from, GamerInGeorgia. I think a link would also help others that have an idea but don't know where to get chiptune instruments from. Smile

@Q-Nova - I used Beepbox for the chip-tune instruments. I first saw it when Kirb was showing some of the things he made using it. The way I used it was by first making a tune in Beepbox, saving it as a file, and then importing it into my music making program. I hope this helps, and good luck! Can't wait to see another entry!
