Birthday announcements? - VinnyVideo - 07-29-2018
In previous iterations of the MFGG forums, the index page would display a list of members' upcoming birthdays. However, the MyBB software doesn't display the birthdays list on the index page - at least under the default settings. You can still see birthdays on the calendar, but not too many people visit this hard-to-find page. Therefore, you don't usually see "happy birthday <name of MFGG> topics" anymore.
Would you like for birthday announcements to be displayed more prominently? Or is this feature not important to you?

I'm a little worried it will get clogged with a big list of inactive members with 0 posts but if there was a way to filter that out it would be pretty cool I think.

I found it more of a novelty than a useful feature, but it's cute to have.

I actually would like to see it brought back to some degree. It was always nice to see people wishing others happy birthdays in GC.

If there's any way to make it possible to opt-in/out of this feature I'd be in support. I, for one, am not totally willing to give out my birthday information.

Well, your birthday is an optional field in your profile. So if you didn't enter it in, then there'd be no way for anyone to know when your birthday is.

That occasionaly happens in other forums; even if that happens it's not a problem honestly.

@rollerC That's understandable, but don't worry - we won't force members to set their birthday or any other piece of personal information.
@Syaxamaphone It wouldn't be hard to mod the birthdays list so it only displays members who have at least one post or have logged in to the forums in the past year.

I'm such a mature person. I just bumped a topic from 2018 to remind everyone that it's my birthday. Bring me cake.
I've been tinkering with a few things on the forums index page lately, and now we have a birthdays list! This will only display members' birthdays if they've posted on this iteration of the forums (tough luck spambots).
Don't forget to bring Gate some cake too - his birthday was yesterday, the day I started working on fixing this.
Note to future admins: If you ever want to disable this feature for some reason, you can remove "{$birthdays}" from the index template. But it's better to go into Forum Home Options in the Admin Control Panel and toggle the "Show Today's Birthdays?" option.
