So is there any particular reason why people's real names are being added to their wiki pages without their knowledge or permission?

For as long as I can remember, the MFGGer template has had a "realname" field, and sometimes other MFGGers have filled out this field. They might have known this member very well, or perhaps this information was listed on an e-mail/MSN/AIM/Skype contact on their profile.

However, I can totally understand why people might not want their real names associated with their online identity - especially since MFGG is a community where most members don't share their real names publicly.

Personally, I'd be totally OK with removing the "realname" field from the MFGGer template - the only thing stopping us from doing that is the manual effort it would take to remove it from all the member pages.

For now, if your Wiki page contains your real name or any other personal information you'd rather not share, feel free to remove it (after all, anyone can edit a wiki!). If you're having trouble editing your page, or if someone is adding back information that you don't want added, you can reach out to a staff member.

That's all fine and well and if people are consenting to have their names added to the wiki, then they can have them. I just don't approve of personal information being published without consent, especially when considering MFGG's history with people being doxxed.

I'm mostly concerned about surnames. Revealing those can be especially dangerous given the internet.

Yeah, real names for members without conscent is the very last thing you should be publishing.

Exactly, it's of no actual importance. Some users I don't know their real names but I'm fine with calling them by their usernames.

I don't see why not. That field is actually useless even though I used it on my page. I don't have much privacy concerns for myself. But to most people, that field is an invitation to privacy issues.

I always assumed people added that themselves as I didn't think anyone would just put someone's real name on their wiki pages for no reason. Still though, I'm in favor of removing that field as there's really no good that can come of it.
