as I skipped sm4sh, I decided to get it...
but what version should I get ?, the wii u or the 3DS version ?
(I did hear that is wasn't as good as ultimate, but it never hurts to try things out)

if you're going to get one, get the wii u version
but there's no reason to play sm4sh if you have ultimate.

It depends on whether you value portability or graphics and variety of controllers more. I personally would get the Wii U version. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch is better than both in nearly every way.

I'd go for Wii U if you're going to get one of them. I can't stand playing smash on the 3DS. If you have Ultimate I wouldn't bother getting either though. I can't think of anything at all from Wii U or 3DS that I miss in Ultimate.

3DS has Smash Run which is one of the greatest single player modes ever. And it's the biggest thing 3DS has over Wii U and even Ultimate.
(Wii U would be still worth getting if not for Ultimate though.)
