Recovering corrupted Game Maker 8 files??? - SuperSledgeBro - 03-11-2020

Well, sh**. My game that was in development for months has become corrupted, and so has its .gb1 backup file!

I'd do anything to have them back. What can I do to retrieve .gmk or .gb1 files made in Game Maker 8? Very Sad

Have to tried to roll back into a previous version?

If you mean by right-clicking the file and going to "Properties", I have tried it, but the "recover" tab isn't there. Logically it's because the File History function is disabled and I can't enable it because there's a message saying that there are no "usable drivers".

This is why using source control is a must.

You should give GMKSplitter a try, try disassembling your gmk file then re-assembling it. If this fails then well, I dunno maybe try using a decompiler with a build of the game.

It did not work, unfortunately. Sad I don't even have an executable of the game to decompile.

Thanks for the help, anyway!

One of my GMK file was corrupted back in around 2010 and I used something called LateralGM to reopen it.

You can give it a shot see if it helps:

No success. Sad It says "You can still use what LGM has managed to read" but it loads nothing from the file.

That's a bummer. I'm afraid that is all I can think of since LateralGM is usually my last resort on recovering corrupted Game Maker files. Do you still have any .gb1, .gb2, etc. files left?

I have the .gb1 file, but I said in the main post that it has also become corrupted simultaneously with the .gmk.
