Small bit of advice for your works. - OssieTheOstrich - 11-04-2020 Whether it be a fangame you're currently doing or maybe some indie related thing, please make sure to make backups (multiple of them, and frequently, if possible) of anything you are working on. Imagine working on a thing so many people admire and would love to see released, and then all of a sudden your computer fails on you and you lose all of your work. That is not a situation anyone wants to be in. RE: Small bit of advice for your works. - Vert - 11-04-2020 You can still recover your files most of the time. Or use git. Good luck though, hope you're not screwed! RE: Small bit of advice for your works. - sooshy - 11-04-2020 what happened RE: Small bit of advice for your works. - OssieTheOstrich - 11-04-2020 (11-04-2020, 03:08 AM)sooshy Wrote: what happened Nothing happened, sooshy. Just wanted to give off this advice to people. Like I said, nobody wants to be in a situation where you lose all your hard work and haven't backed any files, especially if you haven't backed up frequently. Keeping multiple versions of your game source is obviously vital, but it's also wise to back up any other game assets that are important to development but aren't part of the source file - concept art, soundfonts you used to create game music, sprite sheets you downloaded from MFGG, anything that took time to create or curate. RE: Small bit of advice for your works. - SuperSledgeBro - 11-05-2020 Absolutely! I'm growing more wise about keeping backups of what I'm making. RE: Small bit of advice for your works. - Amine Retro - 11-08-2020 Yeah well see i do have backups, but problem is, Certain gamedevs don't make backups because they will quickly become outdated and you have to re-implement the features from where you left off since backing up. I think github works just fine? I've yet to try it. |
