Is it okay to talk about/share the gigaleak stuff now? - OssieTheOstrich - 11-08-2020 Considering that it's been a few months since the leaks release and no new information/news has came out, plus the fact that the postings of the leaks on The Cutting Room Floor have still stayed up, is it okay now to talk about/share the gigaleak stuff? Also, on a related note, why was posting the gigaleak stuff (initially) not allowed in the MFGG discord? Unless there were a few users who are Nintendo lawyers or something like that then I don't really see the issue. RE: Is it okay to talk about/share the gigaleak stuff now? - recent - 11-08-2020 it wasnt allowed on the discord because nintendo was cracking down on servers discussing it at the time RE: Is it okay to talk about/share the gigaleak stuff now? - warioCritic - 11-08-2020 no mate. we can't get taken down! What about the first one though. RE: Is it okay to talk about/share the gigaleak stuff now? - Hyper - 11-27-2020 The problem is not Nintendo lawyers hanging around Discord. You don't know which lurker will begin to send report to Nintendo to get their attention. Even if that's a low risk, it's a matter we don't want to take chances unless we're confident that it's clear. TSR made it pretty clear on this matter: https://www.spriters-resource.com/update-689/ RE: Is it okay to talk about/share the gigaleak stuff now? - Pedigree - 11-28-2020 My favorite quote from the tsr statement Hypernova posted: Quote:Not accepting content from these leaks is not a moral issue. Respect for the private information included in the leak may be a small component here but the reality is, this data was obtained through a targeted and overtly illegal attack on Nintendo's servers and there is nothing gray about it. When I said we can't participate in large-scale theft, that's what I was referring to - the incredibly illegal nature of how this data was obtained. Nintendo has already been removing the content from other sites which should be evidence enough that it was a good call, for legal reasons, to not upload it here. Morality was never my primary reason for refusing this content - it was just a bonus at that point. Nintendo indeed was cracking down on sites and servers sharing that content. I'm guessing that it's fine to discuss the leak itself now but to share the files obtained from the leak is still very questionable. I'm not entirely sure if staff is ready for you to start discussing it though. Maybe PM them directly! |
