How is Commander Keen represented in MFGG? - Q-Nova - 04-20-2021 Do you know what the number 314 stands for? You might say pi, but to the rare DOS game fan that comes here, 314 means the IQ of Commander Keen, our lord! So, how does our Mario-dominated galaxy view Commander Keen? That's what we're going to find out! This is submission #314: https://mfgg.net/index.php?act=resdb¶m=02&c=2&id=314 The mines from Keen 4 make an appearance here! They're just brown instead of gray. This is main site user #314: https://mfgg.net/index.php?act=user¶m=01&uid=314 Seems more like a Mortimer user given the username. This is forum thread #314: https://forums.mfgg.net/thread-314.html Hey, Tom Hall (creator of Keen) has been making VR games! Maybe he has plans for a Keen VR game! This is forum user #314: https://forums.mfgg.net/user-314.html I think that user misspelled 3DR in the username. After all, 3D Realms used to be the distributor of the Keen games! This is update #314: https://mfgg.net/index.php?act=main¶m=02&id=314 The title references Microsoft, who recently bought ZeniMax, who happens to own id Software, owner of Commander Keen (although it seems that they don't care to do anything with him aside from cameos in Doom). I didn't know Black Squirrel can predict the future! This is forum #314: https://forums.mfgg.net/forum-314.html Invalid forum!? Hm, maybe it's The Universe Is Toast! discussion forum! Perhaps it'll come up when TUIT is finally made! That is, when id Software (or Zenimax, or Microsoft) finally decides to give Tom Hall the license! As we can see here, MFGG secretly likes Commander Keen! I guess they're just using Mario for their brand name because he's far more popular! RE: How is Commander Keen represented in MFGG? - Q-Nova - 07-25-2024 As I'm writing this, there are 314 threads in the Gaming forum! MFGG, you may think you're being subtle with your love of Commander Keen, but you aren't deceiving me at all! Quick, we must lock the Gaming forum before someone makes a new thread, or else we will incite the wrath of Mortimer McMire! ![]() RE: How is Commander Keen represented in MFGG? - Vitiman - 07-27-2024 I saw a big box copy of Goodbye Galaxy at a Half-Price Books recently for 750 dollars. It was behind the glass doors and everything. Oh, how I wish it was very slightly, somewhat more affordable. Would have been super cool to have, but alas... RE: How is Commander Keen represented in MFGG? - Q-Nova - 07-28-2024 Seriously though, you found a copy of Goodbye Galaxy out in the wild!? That's incredible! And it's $750!? That's incredible... in a not-so-nice way! Like, jeez, do retro games need to be that expensive? What did the box look like? Did you take a picture? I'd like to see it if you don't mind! ![]() Also, has anyone ever noticed that my user ID in this forum is 317? That's so close to 314, just a difference of 3! What about my user ID in the phpBB era, where it's 3184? Just remove the 8 and you get 314! I didn't plan for that at all in either case! Was MFGG aware of how nuts I am for Keen? I don't know, I just kinda wished I joined this forum a little earlier so my ID could've been 314! I guess I should've expected that, considering that you said it's Goodbye Galaxy! I remember going to eBay years ago, seeing if anyone was selling Keen floppy disks, and I saw an Apogee box that contained a handful of games by them with Commander Keen included (Goodbye Galaxy, and maybe Invasion of the Vorticons too). The seller charged about $800 for it (so I didn't buy it)! A lot of the stuff I saw on eBay were repackages of the shareware games, usually with a screenshot on the cover. Apparently some came with hilariously bad box art, like the one shown below, but I didn't see any in my search: ![]() I went to eBay just now out of curiosity, and lo and behold there are two copies of the original Goodbye Galaxy box (from GT Software) being sold! However, one is charged for nearly $2,300, and the other is $11,500. One of them has a picture of the box's back, which is the first time I've seen it: ![]() There's also a big box copy of Aliens Ate My Babysitter being sold for about $1,500. I guess I can see the boxes being valuable (especially if it's still sealed), but dang, even the floppy disks are being charged for a few hundred dollars! Will the floppies even last for much longer? I heard that they last for about 30 years before succumbing to rot, but yet there are some old floppies that still work well so I'm not sure how true that statement is. I guess it depends on factors like storage and area temperature. |
