Programming during the pandemic - VinnyVideo - 05-21-2021 How has the COVID-19 pandemic affected your energy, motivation, creativity, and productivity when it comes to making games? Like all of you, I've had my ups and downs during the pandemic. I've been to far fewer social gatherings, and working from home every day has saved me about 90 minutes of driving every day. That means I've enjoyed a lot more free time to work on my games - both fangames and indie projects. I've probably made more progress in the past year than I'd done in the 2-3 years prior. I haven't had the time or willpower to program every day, but I've found that working in "sprints" has been pretty effective - I'll work fairly intensely in my free time for a couple of weeks to code and test some new features. Then I'll take a break for a week or two and work on something else. I certainly don't want to spend every second of every day programming (considering that I'm a developer as my day job), but I hope I can keep up this positive momentum once COVID-19 fades away. RE: Programming during the pandemic - Vert - 05-22-2021 DJ Coco and I have started working on a new game. I dunno about him, but considering I don't have much else to do in my free time these days I ended up working a lot on it. At this rate it should be done around the end of the year, I hope we can keep up the momentum. RE: Programming during the pandemic - WWpl4y3r - 05-22-2021 I've been giving a boost on game production lately. At least after taking a bit of a knockback due to some issues, but I'm bouncing back soon. RE: Programming during the pandemic - Myte - 05-23-2021 I've started working a software engineer this month so you could say I'm programming extensively. Programming /games/ in particular, however, not much. RE: Programming during the pandemic - GeneSu730 - 07-22-2021 I have coded a lot of new features for my Super Mario Custom game. The problem is that I suffer from burnout at times. RE: Programming during the pandemic - Hyper - 07-23-2021 I diverted most of my energies to professional programming. I'm now got hired as a full time web developer. RE: Programming during the pandemic - Parakarry - 07-28-2021 With my job, my schedule never really got affected by the pandemic, so I never really had any magic weeks off. Not that my work ethic is that strong anyway. What I HAVE done though is working on a FF1 hack I've talked on the Discord about a bunch. RE: Programming during the pandemic - Kirby's Adventure - 07-28-2021 It actually got me in the mood to make games again, after a couple of years of not having the means to. I'm slowly building up my knowledge base again. RE: Programming during the pandemic - darkblueyoshi - 07-29-2021 I diverted my full time energy to work. There is still hope to make a game. Someday. Someday.I can fully relate and I'm also writing a CMS for MFGG. But first I need to find a better housing so it's closer to work and I have more time to do stuff. Sadly it's not easy thanks to the crazy housing market in my area (Dallas). RE: Programming during the pandemic - darkblueyoshi - 08-01-2021 Idea: Something that bridges the MFGG forums and the MFGG Discord communities together. Example of this Idea: People don't go to the forums because it's another tab to keep open. If there was a way to subscribe to individual forum topics on the MFGG Discord then the MFGG forums will technically get more views. Edit: Wrong topic; please delete ![]() |
