Unlock the search feature in IPB and phpBB archives - Q-Nova - 07-16-2023 In the IPB and phpBB archives, the search feature is only accessible to registered users. Since the registration feature is disabled, it's impossible to use the search feature if you weren't around to create an account on each forum before their respective archival (which is the case with me and the IPB forum). I think we should either:
Any thoughts? I occasionally use the search tool in the phpBB archive to look at some things for fun and looking back (and maybe research), and I'd like to use said tool in the IPB archive for the same aforementioned purposes (e.g. seeing what users said about Mario Party 7 when it came out). I could see some people being worried that opening up the search engine to outsiders can make it easier for them to track down sensitive info, hence why I offered option C, but at the same time I feel like they would just ask an administrator to remove such info. I'd also like to mention that the MyBB forums' search feature is open to anyone, including guests. Personally, I'm leaning towards option A. EDIT: I almost can't believe it's been over a year since the last post in the Suggestions forum... RE: Unlock the search feature in IPB and phpBB archives - VinnyVideo - 07-17-2023 Oh yeah, the Suggestions forums was dormant for a surprisingly long time! It's interesting to see what IPB-era members thought about new games of their era. After I finally went back and beat Twilight Princess last year, it was fun to see how MFGGers originally felt about this much-anticipated (and long-delayed) game. I think C is the best way to go. Not only is it the easiest from a technical perspective, it'll give newer members a chance to check out all the fun skins of the IPB era, not all of which have made their way to any future iteration of the MFGG forums. Shoot me a PM and I can make an account for you. This will also end MikeTheClown's 14-year reign as the newest IPB member. I still don't know who he ever was! He was - per my current lead - possibly a clown ![]() RE: Unlock the search feature in IPB and phpBB archives - Q-Nova - 07-26-2023 @VinnyVideo Ooh, I remember that one topic posted here about IPB skins that were yet to be ported to MyBB. It'd be fun to try those out! I'll send you a PM indeed! I'll probably feel sorry for MikeTheClown, though, taking away what might've been his only achievement, at least in MFGG circles. ![]() @Vitiman I've heard that MikeTheClown may be a cousin of Binky the Clown, a once-infamous clown who has, interestingly, went missing in action all of a sudden. |
