Add HTML5 support on the mainsite - VinnyVideo - 12-12-2023 Every once in a while, I find myself with the time and motivation to add something new or fix something on the MFGG mainsite. We have a new year coming up, and I've been trying to figure out what features to prioritize. Now that GM lets you export HTML5 games for free, I was thinking it would be awesome to add multiplatform support to the MFGG mainsite, starting with HTML5! Initially, when you submit a game to MFGG, you'd be able to upload games as either a Windows version or an HTML5 version. Eventually, I'd make it so popular games could have a Windows version, an HTML5 version, a Mac version, and so on. See this example, complete with gorgeous placeholder graphics, the product of 5 minutes of hard work: ![]() Obviously, we'd have to work out a few technical details - ensuring games run properly on our server, building a good workflow for submitters and staff, and making sure this wouldn't cause any bandwidth or security concerns. Personally, I think adding multiplatform support should be a top priority for MFGG. An increasing number of people do most of their browsing on mobile devices, and MFGG's most popular game development tool makes multiplatform support free and easy to use. What do y'all think? RE: Add HTML5 support on the mainsite - KrystalPhantasm - 12-12-2023 100% agreed; this seems like a very good idea imo, only concern being file size on the servers I suppose? but yeah, multiplatform support for games would be a blessing RE: Add HTML5 support on the mainsite - Vert - 12-13-2023 Oh, this would be pretty cool. Dunno how you would deal with the security concerns though. RE: Add HTML5 support on the mainsite - SonicKade2048 - 12-14-2023 My only concern is how stable the site would be after putting it in. I still remember discussions now and then about how the main site's coding is... iffy, to say the least. I'm no back-end dev but I'd say make sure the site can handle it -- definitely work out security risks and make sure servers can handle the traffic. Otherwise? I think this is a swell idea; would love to see it added down the line.
RE: Add HTML5 support on the mainsite - Roo - 12-16-2023 That'd be pretty sick. I tend to bookmark or download games and then never play them, so having the option to instantly play one would definitely make me play at least a few more than usual. |
