What do you think of Twitter's current state - The ☆ ChahArt - 12-20-2023 You never know what would happen when people like Elon Musk is in charge. Besides the obvious disgusting rebrand to X, which removed Twitter's unique identity, platform also has implemented temporary limits on the number of posts users can read in a day. Under the new restrictions, verified accounts will be allowed to read up to 6,000 tweets daily, while unverified accounts will be limited to 600 tweets. Also, you can no longer block people, you may "block them" from sending you Messages. The blue checkmark now requires just paying money for Premium, Premium also will allow for making longer post than 250 characters up to 25000 characters, edit tweets, and create communities.. What do you think of these changes and the impact they will have on the platform? RE: What do you think of Twitter's current state - WasabiCatto - 12-20-2023 I totally believe that Twitter is not gonna survive 2024 with all these changes, not to mention that I nuked my account in late July. RE: What do you think of Twitter's current state - KrystalPhantasm - 12-20-2023 As someone decently active on there and with a decent sized following; it just sucks to be frank, but I don't use it as much where the tweet post/read limit affects me. The character limit always kind of sucked though given that I like to be wordy anywhere that isn't just casual conversation on Discord, and having a larger character count be under a paywall? I mean, I'd rather just suck it with the char limit, like hell I'm paying for a social media lmao Honestly it's clear that all the stuff good ol' Musky's done is just bad in general, so :P I'm just pretty stubborn to switch to another site, I actually tried Tumblr a few months ago but I can't really keep track of two social medias, because I'm also occupied with other non-social media stuff to remember, though definitely a lot better in general imo. miiiight look into using Cohost later since Twitter/X is very much a sinking ship RE: What do you think of Twitter's current state - The ☆ ChahArt - 12-20-2023 (12-20-2023, 08:41 AM)KrystalPhantasm Wrote: As someone decently active on there and with a decent sized following; it just sucks to be frank, but I don't use it as much where the tweet post/read limit affects me. RE: What do you think of Twitter's current state - VinnyVideo - 12-20-2023 Twitter has been steadily growing less enjoyable and useful for the past decade. The decline has accelerated since Musk took over as Twitator. I understand why Musk decided some changes were needed - Twitter has consistently lost money over the years, and nobody goes into business to lose money. However, I doubt Musk's changes will lead Twitter to long-term profitability. And yes, "X" is one of the most ridiculous rebrands in the history of business. Part of the problem with Twitter is it thrives off drama and controversy, and short-form posting does not lend itself to thoughtful, respectful commentary on important issues. I stopped looking at my Twitter feed about a year ago, which has been a good thing for my mental health. I'll still glance at a few friends' Twitter pages every few weeks, though. (If I haven't looked at yours in a while, feel free to bug me to do so.) RE: What do you think of Twitter's current state - The ☆ ChahArt - 12-21-2023 It is speculated that that the reason for the rename was Elon Musk being fascinated with the letter X. Some also argue that short form text was one of Twitter's biggest strength, as it could pertain an audience with limited attention span. The problem with that is Twitter itself is infamous for drama and controversy for the littlest thing ever. I don't believe that, we all know elon musky fanboys will keep it alive for how long they can suck his musty tree until its dry. RE: What do you think of Twitter's current state - DJ Coco - 12-22-2023 I still use Twitter for my daily dose of cool indie devs making cool stuff, but more importantly, cat videos. I just wish it wasn't so full of bots these days. RE: What do you think of Twitter's current state - VinnyVideo - 12-23-2023 @Chadook One of Elon Musk's earlier businesses was X.com, which later became PayPal. I think X.com's owners realized that having a more descriptive name that's less likely to be associated with shady enterprises would be good for business! Elon apparently has a deep sentimental attachment to the X.com name and decided he liked that name better than Twitter. (This is what happens when people have more money than sense!) In the long run, Elon is toying with the idea of making X.com a "superapp" that combines social media, payments, and other features. This kind of thing has worked better in Asian countries than in North America. It would also be more likely to work if a broader base of users trusted Elon and Twitter in general. @DJ Coco Yeah, social media in general has become overrun with spammers and bots, sadly. And thusly, the one thing that Elon had sentimental attachment to, became the biggest detriment to the website he rebranded, and continues to go downhill from there, not helped by the fact that Blue-Sky social is their biggest competitor yet. RE: What do you think of Twitter's current state - darkblueyoshi - 12-24-2023 I didn't notice any difference since Elon Musk bought Twitter because I only use it to watch meme videos. The premium tier is only $3 per month, which if you're in the US, is pretty cheap. I have no need for premium tier yet. |
