Stuff you did in 2023 - VinnyVideo - 12-30-2023
We couldn't make it out of the year without me making one of these topics!
Real Life Stuff I Did
- Stayed at the same job
- Stayed pretty good at being active
- Learned a lot more about investing
- Pretty much quit using social media
- Finally bought a 3DS
MFGG/Creative Stuff I Did
- Finished Career Fantasy after 12 years of development
- Made Debtor's Prison, a dumb game to test out different GM exports
- Wrote one guide at GameFAQs for an obscure Nintendo 64 racing game
- Did some stuff with the MFGG queue again
- Made some really simple music for Career Fantasy
Stuff I Didn't Do
- Didn't draw much
- Didn't perpetrate any massive heists of rare jewelry
- Didn't poach any endangered species
- Didn't get cholera or dysentery

Real Life Stuff I Did
- Started a garden together where we grow our own crops, veggies, spices... etc (as well as plant an apple tree just a few weeks ago!).
- After taking nearly daily walks for years, I expanded upon that by also biking several times a week, sometimes for hours a day. It's just a fun thing to do!
- Pay more attention to my diet and eat more (I used to be very underweight)
- Improved my cooking skills
MFGG/Creative Stuff I Did
- Finally launched Level Share Square, our level sharing website... not trying to show off, just glad it's finally released
- Participated in this year's MFGG Game Jam (Luigi's Power-up Express... which I still plan to expand sometime in the future)
- More updates on Super Mario Construct (& some smaller ones for Yoshi's Fabrication Station, tho more are still to come)
- Joined the site staff to help out with queue entries!
Stuff I Didn't Do
- Create an original game (not a fangame)... yet
- Learn how to not be distracted so easily whilst working (Time to work on that next year!)
- A backflip. Maybe next year though.

- Worked a bit on a simple fan game

- Improved my ranking on the Mario Kart Players Page (time trials)
- Worked on clearing my backlog

- Get a job
I'm still in the mindset where the year starts in September and ends in June, and my train of thought was interrupted just now, so I can't finish this sentence.

- Been to the Netherlands for vacation
- Ate some kroket (they are actually good)
- Brought the Cliax Codec codebase up to date
- Finished Chapter 2 and the majority of Chapter 3
- Prototyped several mobile games

Real Life Stuff I Did
- Learned Korean during the start of the year
- Got to visit Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam
- Got to explore one of the great beaches in my country
- Bought myself a Samsung Z Flip 5 as a secondary phone (I still use my iPhone 13 Pro as my daily driver)
- Still a software engineer at the same company
- Started taking masters of statistics courses (currently done with 6 units out of 37)
- Got a perm haha
MFGG/Creative Stuff I Did
- Was pretty good in visiting the forums regularly
- Took part in the Super Mario RPG collab which was posted in Twitter
- Was able to make an active art account in instagram
Stuff I Didn't Do
- Didn't go the gym as consistently as I wanted
- Didn't learn Unity/Godot/C++

Real life stuff:
- Made improvements to my diet
- Got really into coffee
- Learned pool maintenance from my dad
- Hacked my 3DS XL and replaced the broken circle pad and missing stylus
- Got my Wii two new third-party GameCube controllers and a bigger flash drive to hold my emulated games
- Created a Shy Gal alter ego to cosplay as
- Came up with a few ideas for my science fantasy series, and refined a few existing ideas
- Get a job
- Get a driver's license and a car
- Move out of my parents' place
- Buy or build a new PC
- Revamp my YouTube channel into something that can get me fame and/or money

IRL Stuff:
- Stayed at the same job as a senior developer, got a pay raise
- Went to several conventions
- Started to go to local meetups more
- Running several times a week
- Bought a project truck to restore (1993 Nissan D21)
- Traveled to 5 new states (Missouri, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin)
Creative stuff:
- Draw much more art in 2023, expanded my presence on Twitter/Bsky
- Learned Java, React Native, and GoDot
- Did some work on a particular fan game
Didn't do:
- Finish that one fan game I'm working on
- Start indie game dev
- Learn 3D modeling

Real Life Stuff I Did
I got a promotion at work (with a big raise and bonus to boot).
I developed a new database at my job (which is the reason why I got the promotion).
I flew to California to see my cousin get married.
I repaired a hole in my ceiling.
I squatted 270 pounds at the gym.
Stuff I didn't do:
I didn't finish my Mario fan game yet. I wanted to finish building Super Mario Nation in 2023. I have 63 stages done but I wanted to have 70 stages spread across 8 worlds.
I didn't find a girlfriend (Ahhhh).
I didn't deadlift twice my weight (a long term fitness goal).
I didn't fix my porch ceiling yet (which I will do in April or May).
