Stuff you did in 2017 - VinnyVideo - 12-27-2017
It's back. Here's the 2016 topic, for those who might be interested.
Real Life Stuff I Did
- Finished a bunch of grad school team projects without strangling anybody
- Successfully delivered two presentations about programming at two different events
- Earned a Software Development Fundamentals MTA certification because why not (it's very entry-level and possibly redundant, but it was also free)
- Finished my master's degree
- Left my graduate assistant position because I finished grad school
- Successfully survived a hurricane (and a solar eclipse!)
- Had a few job interviews, but still haven't found my dream job yet
- Met another model, because I have to meet one of those every year
MFGG/Online Stuff I Did
- Updated Cheerwine Deluxe 3 so the online high scores system works again
- Made Satilla Composite for a Minigame Competition (I won't post the link to the demo, since the full version is close to being done)
- Did a little bit with Career Fantasy
- Had fun using data analytics tools (mostly MySQL, Excel, and Tableau) to analyze how MFGG activity levels have fluctuated over time
- Made a corny Majora's Mask-themed skin, a countdown timer, and a music player to commemorate the end of the phpBB forums
- Installed and launched a new MyBB-based forum system
- Made a Twitter page full of zany spambot quotes
- Tried to keep my old video game FAQs up-to-date
Stuff I Didn't Do
- Compose music
- Try drawing more
- Find anything faintly resembling romance
How was your 2017? Was it a year of achievement and awesomeness, or was it a bit more challenging?

- Graduated in Industrial Computer Science (Robotics, Manufacturing Equipment, etc.)
- Got a job in a game testing company. I have my name in some well reputed games already.
- Somehow managed to make a short meme video that got 10 million views. Got stolen by worldstarhiphop.
- Assembled my first computers, one for gaming and productive tasks and another for media storage and watching. It was a lot of fun.

- Released an app that has so far made us over $5000 USD and has had over 600,000 installs (though nowhere near that many active by this point)

- Came up with loads of game ideas that I hope to make one day

- Made this MYBB skin
Really 2017 has been a pretty crappy year as far as my own life is concerned, I haven't had much time for myself.

- Paid 12 months worth of a mortgage
- Had eavestroughs put on my house
- Had an Air Conditioner installed for the house
- Bought a new car
- Continued development of my fangame, including trying out Twitch for a bit
- Bought a new windows laptop for the first time since like 2004
- Went insane with GBA collecting: https://www.instagram.com/p/BY4rgIon1Wh
- Completed a bunch of GBA games: The Castlevania Trilogy, The Fire Emblem Trilogy, Advance Wars 2, LoZ: The Minish Cap
- Beat Metroid Prime for the first time, finally
- Metroid: Samus Returns!!!
- Backed several promising games on Kickstarter: Eagle Island, Blasphemous, Flynn: Son of Crimson, The Iron Oath
- Actually read 3 fiction books
- Celebrated my 5th wedding anniversary with my wife
- Visited Denmark
- Visited New York City, Washington, Philadelphia
- New Necromunda came out!
Pretty good year overall!

2017 was a trainwreck but I got some stuffs to share:
- paid off my vehicle and become debt free
- completed courses of server administration at cPanel University
- learning Python
- traded off my vehicle for a used cost effective vehicle from a private seller
- drove across the American plains
- witness the solar eclipse at Wyoming
- installed macOS High Sierra on my second HP laptop
- moved from Texas to Montana (temporarily)
MFGG stuffs:
- ???
Failed goals:
- getting promoted to tier 3 Jr Linux Admin (laid off as tier 2 Jr Linux Admin)
- get a realistic job that pays well (thanks Hurricane Harvey)

-Got a job at the produce department of a (at the time local) Wal-Mart. Got my year review a couple days ago.
-started Hormone Replacement Therapy to transition.
-started dating then became engaged to a beautiful lady
-made some slow progress on a game, leading me to read a game design book to understand that better
-moved in with my girlfriend/partner
- made a #minigame
-quit smoking
-lost 30 pounds, gained 20 (thanks lack of nicotene)
-bought my Nintendo Switch with smart saving
-read a budgeting book, 2 books on comic book writing, two spirituality books, a whole lot of comics and graphic novels
-played some games and beat a few like Metroid Samus Returns and Call of Duty WW2
- Went for a short visit at a psych ward with my partner when my medication got loopy
-took a cooking course at a mental health hospital I'm an outpatient at.
-ate chocolate
-drank pop
-not a whole lot else

-Mom's funeral expenses paid in full, 18,000 dollars, many 16 hour shifts to work
-Became a permanent employee at a major hospital where I live, I also receive free healthcare and a pension with a 401K from my job

Since i really can't remember a lot i've did this year, i can only say my key elements but in a unordered time:
- Had lots of trouble figuring out how to make a good drawing, resulting in lots of unfinished sketches.
- I kept using FamiTracker almost all the time, it was one of the things that got me all the time.
- Got a new Samsung phone that replaced my crappy Android phone from China.
- Subscribed to an art school that will occasionally help me learn drawing anatomy better.
- Started learning (finally) Game Maker Language after 7 years using Game Maker with the drag and drop elements.
- Had problems with some people from Skype groups, lost some good friends from the past.
- I started staying up really really late... zzzzzzzzzzzz

- Progressed to my final year at university.
- Marked a year working in Asda (Walmart)
- Met and befriended my best friend. Made a few other friends as well.
- (Finally) fixed my sleeping pattern, although that came as a result of the job.
- Learnt to drive (although I still haven't passed my test yet...)
- Bought myself a car
- Celebrated my 21st birthday (not that it means anything to me because I don't drink alcohol)
2017 was a better year than I expected. A few regrets but a lot of good stuff came from it.
