Nintendo Switch 2 - Q-Nova - 01-17-2025 The moment has finally come, on January 16, Nintendo has put out what everyone was waiting for... Donkey Kong Country Returns HD! Okay, jokes aside, they did unveil a first look at the Nintendo Switch successor: Yep, looks like they really are calling it Nintendo Switch 2. It's not much different from the original Switch from the looks of it so far, but I'm not surprised that Nintendo is sticking with the handheld-console hybrid model. You know what they say, don't fix what isn't broken. I wonder how that mouse functionality is going to work, though, the Joy-Cons seem a bit uncomfortable in that position. Also, there's a new Mario Kart shown at the end! Not much is seen, but I noticed some of the characters have updated designs. Mario for instance looks a bit more like his N64 counterpart, which I kind of like. What do you guys think? Are any of you excited for the upcoming system? To tell the truth, I'm not really much of a modern gamer, so it doesn't mean much to me, but I sometimes like keeping up with the news and seeing what's coming out and I thought this reveal was a nice surprise. Do you actually play modern games and systems, or is the MFGG forums full of retro gamers? (Maybe that question needs its own thread...) RE: Nintendo Switch 2 - littlelum - 01-17-2025 Visually, I like the design. It looks a lot more sleek and "mature". Especially how they changed the way the joy cons connect, as I've had some issues with the original in that regard. I'm kinda disappointed they just did a basic name instead of calling it something more interesting. I'd say I'm more of a retro gamer currently, although I'm not at the age of your typical retro gamer yet. Primarily because I have a bunch of games that I haven't got around to playing yet. By the time I get around to the newer games, they'd probably be considered retro. About the new Mario kart, I hope that they make the mechanics more complex again, like in the older games. 8 is polished very well (not counting the BCP), but the driving mechanics are a little too simple compared to the older ones for me. RE: Nintendo Switch 2 - Nackless - 01-17-2025 I don't know... I wanted Nintenod to make a new gimmick for a console. That's what set them apart from PlayStation and Xbox. And yeah "don't fix what ain't broken" but don't give me the same food every lunch either. I guess it could be hard to make a new gimmick since they already did almost but I'm pretty sure they could have found at least a little something. I guess the design is more slick and more mature but I'm afraid it means that Nintendo is leaning to look more like PlayStation and Xbox and try to have more of a slick look than a charming one. I really dislike the fact that they removed eShop Music and Menu Music and I feel like this console is just going to have a PlayStation-esque menu. As for the new Mario Kart, I genuinely had to double check to se if it was new or just Mario kart 8. It looks very much the same apart from the models. Honeslty, I'm not very excitedl, if I end up buying, it's gonna be purely for the games that will release on it. RE: Nintendo Switch 2 - DJ Coco - 01-17-2025 I'm sure there is a gimmick. We just haven't seen it yet. According to leaks, it's that the joycon can be used like a mouse? What I care about more than the console though is that we are finally getting a new Mario Kart game. I didn't think I'd live to see the day. The models look very nice, and while I thought MK8 aged like fine wine, it really does look much worse in comparison. I wonder what gimmick they will have this time round. It seems to have changing laps like BCP, but there also was a dubious yellow item that looked like a takeout bag. I also genuinely hope there will be no retro tracks this time. We've had rehashed content for ages now. BCP was almost exclusively retro tracks and half of base MK8 was retro tracks as well. I think we have seen everything worthwhile by now and played it to death. Give me something fresh. RE: Nintendo Switch 2 - VinnyVideo - 01-18-2025 I don't play a lot of new games. I never had an original Switch, but it's possible I'll pick this up when it comes out. RE: Nintendo Switch 2 - Unistt - 01-25-2025 Fake Videos About the Switch 3 and 4 have been on my recommended lately ever since it got revealed |
