Do you dislike NSMB2? - Saltman - 09-20-2025

I'd say I just beat New Super Mario Bros 2. Beat every level, got every star coin and visited every shop... but the game doesn't tell me I got them all and I still have 7 star coins left to spend.... I'm not sure if that's supposed to happen. Checked all maps too. Oh well.

It feels like a hack of NSMBWii with a Tanooki Leaf and lots of coins, but it was fun. The most memorable thing is all the koopalings at once turning you to stone with a flash in the final level, but I'll remember little else probably.

I think this game was hated because it came out at a bad time of sanitized Mario, but it's not horrible. Just a fun level pack. Star world levels were fun too, but bland compared to the star worlds of the other games, because they feel more like normal levels you see in other worlds rather than something gimmicky, or with at least a background color change or something.

I played it once, but the only thing I really remember was that I needed the golden leaf helper power up at the Bowser fight. It just felt kinda forgettable. I've heard that some of the DLC is interesting, but I didn't like the base game enough to give it a try.

That's a really good way to describe the game.

I don't dislike NSMB2, but I wasn't wowed by it either.

I didn't have a 3DS until relatively recently. I finished NSMB2 in early 2024, and I found it to be a decent experience. But in a world where NSMB Wii already exists, there wasn't much that made NSMB2 feel special.

I found the areas with ludicrous amounts of coins to be rather amusing, though.

I like the game. Although, it's my least favorite of the New Super Mario Bros. games (especially compared to New Super Mario Bros. Wii and New Super Mario Bros. U). It's still fun to play, though.

The last time I played NSMB2 was last year, but for, me it´s fun to play. I remember in one of the matches in the world of bowser, I couldn´t kill the final boss, but (if my memory serves me right) I play the most worlds of the game (exept the special star world). I liked take coins or I like the desing of some levels. For me, is a good game, and I have no idea because many people says NSMB2 isn´t a good game. But, I have a question...
Why is calledNSMB2 when NSMBWii is the second game of the saga new?, better NSMB3 or other name.

My theory is that is was purely for marketing. Being THE sequel rather than simply being in the same series makes it seem more important. (Probably a similar situation to what happened to Xenoblade)

I think it was supposed to be called New Super Mario Bros. Gold but I'm not sure if that was just a rumor. It would be a more fitting name for sure, but I can see why they would've changed it - it sounds more like a remaster, while NSMB2 screams "hey, I'm the big new thing"

On topic, yeah I dislike this game. It might not objectively be terrible but in context with the other Mario games it's about as lazy as can be. And the level design didn't feel very professional either; I've played fangames with more ambition and better design.

It was also the first Nintendo game to include paid DLC I think; and that DLC was just as underwhelming as everything else about the game.

Wow, I didn't know that rumor about the alternate name for NSMB2 existed, but I've discovered something new about this game Laughing .
