Whats your favorite Mario fangame?
for me its:
#1: Super Mario Bros. Dimensions
#2: Mario Land: Minigame Mayhem
#3: Maridows 64
#4: Super Mario Bros. Wonderland
#5: Mario Editor
#6: Super Mario Bros. Super Quest

Good timing on the topic, I am about to go through as many games as I can on the main site (to learn, to be inspired, to simply enjoy). I will check out some of those games. I trust Vert's judgement on this, I wish he listed more since I consider him somewhat a "true" MFGGer. I will list some of the ones I like too I dont know how long it will take me I am doing 1 million things at once (exaggerated). But I am here for the MFGG experience now

Seconding Psycho Waluigi.
Toadette Strikes is from the same developer (and MFGG's founder!) and is also really good.
For something more traditional I recommend Super Mario Bros. DDX which is old but still good, and Paper Mario 3D Land if you're looking for something 3D (tooting my own horn here, hehe).
Midas Machine is incomplete but also worth looking at.
For something funny, try any of the Normal Super Mario Bros. games

I second Coco's recommendations though I think Super Mario Country is better than PM3DL. And if ROM hacks are your thing I'd play Plumber of all Seasons.

I definitely did not expect a Vinny response to lack Mushroom Pancakes.
Also, yeah if you're into romhacks, definitely try A Plumber for All Seasons.

Also I said this after reading a topic of a MFGG meetup in Japan, with Vert, DJ Coco and someone else, I don't feel like digging it up right now, but its somewhere in the GC. I don't know what a "true" MFGGer is, I just know that there are MFGGers and were MFGGers that talk to each other as a "group" outside of MFGG. I guess I just implement that as MFGG as friendships beyond being a Mario fan? I don't know. I don't even consider myself a true MFGGer in this context.
But also thanks for all the fangames, I am going to play more as we get closer to the anniversary. I was playing a lot at the end of 2025, I am going to kickstart that back up again. One game from the mainsite that was impressing me was "The Shroom Project", a very violent and weaponized game, but beautifully made. I will have more insight once I play some more.

@NowhereMan Don't worry - nobody's keeping a list of which people are "true" MFGGers or not! If you post comments here or submit things on the mainsite, you are indeed a bona fide member of our community.
I actually did meet one MFGGer in real life many years ago. He lived in the same city as me, and we met at an IT conference.

Hi, new to MFGG here but wanted to reply to this since it's an interesting question
I think if I had to pick a favorite fangame, it'd be either Super Mario Bros. X or Super Mario Bros. X 2.0. I love how they include both a main story and a level maker!
