MY IDEA OF REVIVING MFGG - luckygames - 01-12-2026 After seeing many users lamenting the decline of the MFGG homepage, I've decided to come up with some ideas to help MFGG reach a wider audience. Some might be silly, like Mario being bald, but I can dream... 1: CREATE AN OFFICIAL YOUTUBE CHANNEL: How can people discover a website they didn't even know existed? YouTube is one of the most used social networks, and although I know some people already have YouTube accounts, a general channel where you talk about important things online (contests, new games, relevant news, etc.) would be great to get people interested in MFGG. The downside might be needing a license to post Mario-related content on YouTube, and we have three options: a new "Channel/YouTube Admin" position, two positions where one manages the channel and the other brainstorms ideas, or one of the existing admins could take on this role... 2: AN ANIMATIONS/GAMEPLAYS/VIDEOS SECTION: The idea is to create a section where animation specialists can upload their work, allowing for greater freedom, albeit with clear rules. They can also upload gameplay videos to help users complete games or discover secrets, but only those related to Nintendo. Of course, this system would be very complex (and perhaps not even feasible on MyBB ), but at least we would be more distinct from other Mario/Nintendo websites.3: BE THE MAIN PAGE FOR ISOLATED MARIO´S FANS OR OTHER COMMUNITIES: Many Mario fans are isolated or condemned to share their ideas or games only on their main page or platform (like Scratch, which I discussed in another forum I created). My plan is for us to promote ourselves as the resource for making his projects compatible with other Mario fans. This way, people from Turbowarp or Penguinmod could upload their projects here, or Scratch users could post links to try them out. Of course, we won't accept some specific communities that would harm MFGG, but most could be welcomed (and promoted on the YouTube channel ).4: USE OTHER WEBSITES AS A GUIDE TO IMPROVE OUR OWN: NOTE: USE THEM AS A GUIDE, NOT A COPY We could take inspiration from other websites where their forums or other features work well and use those models to improve our own forums. It's probably not wise to rely on everything, but we can certainly use something that can be improved. 5: MULTIPLE FRANCHISES To attract people who aren't Mario fans, we could add content from other franchises by the Kyoto-based company to our website, such as Zelda, Donkey Kong, etc. The more content we offer, the greater the chance that someone will get hooked on the website or Discord server. With more content, this website might even skyrocket to the top... EXTRA IDEA: MULTILINGUAL SUPPORT It's optional, but more languages could encourage more people to visit the website without having to speak English to communicate, or create forums in other languages, like one in Spanish, French, or other languages. MyBB already supports some languages ! These ideas could be very promising! RE: MY IDEA OF REVIVING MFGG - Vert - 01-13-2026 Hosting videos is a very costly thing, and having a YouTube channel would require people to make content on a semi-regular basis. Not impossible, but seems out of scope for a website relying entirely on volunteer work. RE: MY IDEA OF REVIVING MFGG - VinnyVideo - 01-13-2026 1. We had an official MFGG YouTube channel in 2018. It's a good idea that could attract more users to MFGG, though it would also require some time and commitment to create videos regularly. 2. Hosting videos on MFGG's server won't be feasible because of the size of video files. A handful of HD videos could take up more space than everything that's currently on MFGG. You're more than welcome to host such videos on YouTube (or another external platform) and share them on the forums, though. If we had enough of those, it could be cool to link gameplay videos with mainsite submissions, though that would take some work. 3. I'm not familiar with the two communities you mentioned, so it's hard for me to comment on this idea. However, you're always welcome to invite people from other communities if you think they'd be a positive contributor here. 4. Could you be more specific with this suggestion? Can you think of some similar communities that are thriving? What do you think makes them successful? 5. This is something we implemented several years ago. You can now submit Zelda fangames or Kirby sprites or DKC-inspired music to the mainsite. Extra Idea. This idea gets suggested occasionally. MFGG has a lot of users in countries where Spanish and Portuguese are the primary languages. Having a non-English subforum would require someone fluent in the language so they can moderate it, and having boards in multiple languages could make the community feel more fractured. Also, tools like Google Translate can make it easier for people who aren't native English speakers to interact with MFGG. RE: MY IDEA OF REVIVING MFGG - luckygames - 01-14-2026 For example (independent websites about Nintendo franchises): Mario Customs, Romhacking.net, or Starment.net... One example of little-known or under-discussed communities is minimalist Kaizo, parodies of Mario wikis (parodies because they present fictional content), and researchers of the butterfly effect in speedruns, among others... In fact, that's what I do to read the forums, which is why I included it as an extra idea, because it was the least likely to be implemented! And as for the videos, I already mentioned that it was difficult to add, so links or a forum that allows sharing those links would be better! P.S.: ¿Puedes leer esto? (Si no es el primer mensaje en español, ¡será uno de los pocos!) P.S: wWhy did the channel close or is it still active? RE: MY IDEA OF REVIVING MFGG - VinnyVideo - 01-15-2026 @2DDGAMES The MFGG YouTube hasn't been active since 2018. We had a few staff changes in late 2018, and the main person who operated the YouTube channel stepped down then. The old MFGG YouTube didn't get much engagement and was never well-integrated into MFGG, and no staff member wanted to take over the YouTube channel. If we revived the MFGG YouTube, we'd probably start over with a new account. We'd also want to think about how to give it a better-defined purpose. RE: MY IDEA OF REVIVING MFGG - DJ Coco - 01-16-2026 Many people have proposed reviving MFGG over the years but I'm not sure it's very feasible with modern social media being a thing. Also, I think this thread should be in Suggestions and not drowning in the PPP. RE: MY IDEA OF REVIVING MFGG - luckygames - 01-16-2026 That's what I thought, but I put it here because it was more of a crazy idea that probably wouldn't make any impact or would be rejected among other more beneficial ones than this .
RE: MY IDEA OF REVIVING MFGG - VinnyVideo - 01-16-2026 This topic definitely has a point... I agree that the Suggestions board would be a better home for it! Modern social media is a flaming dumpster fire, and I think a lot of people are frustrated with Twitter, Facebook, and their ilk. I also think Discord is likely to turn to feces if they pursue an IPO, as they're allegedly considering. It's not easy to persuade people to spend more time on an older-style platform, but forums have the capability to do what social media can't. RE: MY IDEA OF REVIVING MFGG - luckygames - 01-17-2026 How did you manage to move this forum to suggestions? With the semi-unlimited powers of the MFGG admins? RE: MY IDEA OF REVIVING MFGG - VinnyVideo - 01-18-2026 Magic. Anyone with forum admin/mod powers can move a topic to another forum as needed. I don't do much with forum moderation in 2026, but I still take care of the Suggestions board. |
