Jazz/Omega has unfortunately passed away - Vitiman - 05-17-2026

I don't know if anyone here was following Jazz outside of this website, or perhaps the user base here might not be familiar with him... in which case, first, Jazz was a very old contributor to MFGG going back to the IPB days (the wiki says he joined in 2005, so an entire drinking aged person ago).

More recently however, Jazz had been struggling with a battle with cancer. I am very sad to say that he lost this battle earlier this evening.

I was debating if I should be the one sharing this information, but a lot of Jazz's closer friends and folks who used to be on MFGG don't really frequent the site anymore (admittedly, neither do I) and it just seemed appropriate that someone do. He was a big part of MFGG's growing popularity and increasing community.

He was still submitting custom sprites to here as recent as two years ago, and he kept this up for a very very long time.

As I've said in numerous other places and circles, Jazz had a very strong impact on my own art. Even outside of that, he was very nice and kindhearted person and he was always very fun to talk to about games and the like. I wished I interacted with him more than I did, but I can safely say he enriched my life nonetheless. My thoughts go out to his family and close friends in this difficult time.

It's a pity that I didn't have the opportunity to interact with him, I give condolences to the family and friends.

Jesus, that's a real shame. He was a friendly and amicable guy, I don't doubt he'll be missed.

Sad

Cancer is relentless.

RIP. Condolences to friends and family.

Oh no... that's really sad to hear. I was aware that Jazz had been battling an advanced case of cancer, but it's still hard to believe he's gone.

Jazz was one of my favorite spriters, artists, and comic creators for many years, and he served as a staff member for a while as well. I didn't get to talk to him in one-on-one chats very often, but he was a friendly person and he definitely made MFGG - and the world - a better place.

Jazz ended up spriting a huge variety of "Marioverse" characters over the years - pretty much all of the biggies, but he also covered a lot of rarer/more obscure characters. I know there's a lot of characters on MFGG's mainsite where Jazz is the only person who's ever sprited them before.

I'll miss Jazz. This is yet another reason to not be a fan of cancer, and I hope that someday humanity can find a cure for the disease.

I edited his wiki article, adding the deceased template, and an entry explaining his death...if anyone can word this better, or if I got anything wrong, please edit it.

Omega, in all honesty, might be my most favorite pixel artist of the entire MFGG community, no lie.

Going through the entire library of sprites on the main site, Omega is an artist that always stands out most. He has, no doubt, a huge influence on MFGG as it stands now. That must not be forgotten. His contributions to the website itself, as a submissioner, alone, is outshining on all levels, as an MFGGer of course.

I don't check this site too often anymore, and while I don't think I ever actually talked to him, I recall his presence on the forum as well as his contributions fondly. I am very sad to hear of his passing and wish my condolences to his friends and family.
