What games are you nostalgic for? - Evil Yoshi Toes - 01-31-2018
Here's some of mine:
Animal Crossing Wild World: I got it when I was around 6, right about when it came out, and I played it all the time. Everything about that game was so fun and relaxing, and the soundtrack is the best in the series. The animals all felt so alive and full of personality, something New Leaf watered down drastically. I also had it on the gamecube but I played Wild World more, probably because of the multiplayer which I made use of often with my friends. I think the Gamecube's Animal Crossing is the best in the series with nostalgia aside, but the memories keep bringing me back to Wild World. And that soundtrack.
Smash Bros Melee: I used to play it all the time with my brother and my neighbor. I still play it a lot, but I play Smash Bros Wii U more because I think it's a better game. Oddly enough there are some graphical elements of Melee that I prefer over Smash 4, though. I like most of the character's designs in Melee better, especially for Bowser, Link, Zelda, and Peach, and I really enjoy the hair and clothing movements in Melee as well... Peach's hair had a life of its own.
Mario Sunshine: I played it constantly, taking turns with my brother. We sucked but we eventually beat it. I still play it a lot and I love the atmosphere of the game. Odyssey and Galaxy are better designed, and I do have some good childhood memories with Galaxy, but Sunshine's setting makes it my favorite.
Shrek 2 and Shrek Super Slam: They're bad but I thought they were fun and I still play them for the laughs and for the memories. My brother and I loved Shrek 1-2 (and still do! 3 and 4 should not exist though), so we'd play these two games a lot. I was always donkey because he's the best.

Anywho, Metroid Prime 2: lots of nostalgia for this classic. It's much better than the original Prime in my opinion. I loved the lore and depth and incredible detail of this game- especially for GameCube era.
Bomberman Hero: lots of levels, lots of weirdness and lots of fun. I loved Bombermans ability to jump. Played this a lot with one of my best friends growing up.
I had to think about it - Goldeneye 64. One of the best games on N64 and also the first shooter of its style- slappers only!!

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
God I love this game. Back at my old school, we had a bunch of random GBA and DS games (Including those bootleg GBA carts filled with random NES roms) and this was one of them. I adore the artstyle and there's just so many cool and memorable locations and characters. Also that soundtrack is one of the GBA's best.

The Sonic games on the Master System were my world back in the day. Sonic 1, 2 and Chaos to be specific. I have a fan fiction that's basically a re-telling of parts of the story from Sonic 1 and 2 (with Knuckles in it) from something like... 25 years ago or around there. It's semi-corrupt thanks to being extracted from a dying floppy disk.
Also DK64 is a good source of nostalgia for me. Same for a few other N64 games such as Goldeneye, Mario Party or other games I had as a child.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening was one of my first Game Boy games. I was not a very bright child because I couldn't get past the raccoon in the Mysterious Forest for a very unreasonably long amount of time - I believe the game wound up sitting shelved for at least two years before I was finally motivated to play it again, get stuck again, order a strategy guide from Nintendo Power... and then figure it out before the guide even showed up at my house. Once I did figure it out, though, and the rest of the game opened up to me, I found one of the best adventures the Game Boy had to offer, and honestly, one of the best Zelda games out there. Its atmosphere, its gameplay, its music, it's all so wonderfully crafted.
Pokemon Trading Card Game was just one of my favourite Game Boy Colour games. I was one of the few kids who actually played the card game (though it helped I had both a brother and a neighbour who played it with me), so getting a portable version of it I could play whenever I wanted was just wonderful. I really wish the Virtual Console version provided on the 3DS actually had the multiplayer emulation that the main series Pokemon VC games have gotten - and to be honest, I would rather they just do that than release an updated version with modern cards. I hate the modern card game.
Burnout Revenge was the best racing game ever when I first got it. High speed racing, checking same-way traffic across the road, smashing enemies into whatever was handy, whoo-boy, I still love it. And then you unlock the Crashbreaker events. "Oh no it appears I have been taken out-" KABLAMMMMOOO Instant Revenge heck yeah take that, loser! Plus it was the last game to have Crash events and just... unleashing hell on various busy streets was a little too much fun.

DKC2 and Yoshi's Island are two biggies for me. I first playing them back when I was first grade, and many good times were had. DKC2 was probably the hardest game I'd ever played at that point, and I remember how excited I was when I first finished tough levels like Bramble Scramble.
@Zero Kirby Link's Awakening is another one for me, too. I remember getting stuck at two different points - the first was the second room in the Bottle Grotto (which would've been easy if I had played A Link to the Past first), and the second was getting into Kanalet Castle. I didn't figure out how to get past the dark room in the Bottle Grotto until I dug out an old GamePro magazine that discussed the game. Link's Awakening is still an awesome game, and my first Zelda game is still one of my favorites.
@Kritter Last month I played DK64 for the first time in many years. Some aspects of the game haven't aged gracefully, but it's still a fun experience.

Mario Party 5 and 8: These two games were my first two Mario Parties, and though I do believe they are on the lower end of the Mario Party table, I still hold quite a lot of fond memories of them -- especially Mario Party 5. The sheer variety in that game is amazing. Super Duels! Bonus Modes! A cool Solo Mode!
Mario Kart Wii: Though Double Dash was my first Mario Kart, MKWii is the one I know the best (even if I have yet to beat any of the cups on anything higher than 50cc). I can't tell you how many times I've hung about on the Online mode; that stuff was amazing.
Super Mario Galaxy 2: This is the first 3D Mario I really remember playing. I mean, I remember dabbing into a bit of SMG1 beforehand, but Galaxy 2 was really when I started to really 'get' why 3D Marios are so spectacular. The Stars, the Power-ups, the galaxies! It's amazing!
Super Smash Bros. Brawl: Brawl is the Smash I remember the most. I've played this so much with my brother, goofed around with all the playable characters, almost beat the entire Story Mode -- damn, this game just has so much!
Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep: This was the point where I finally really got invested into Kingdom Hearts, and it did so in a really amazing way. The Command Deck was really fun to play around with, the Command Board sated my lust for Mario Parties, and the whole battle system was pretty amazing. I had no idea where the heck the plot was going, but damn if it wasn't fun anyway.
Portal 2: I suck at puzzles, I'll admit. But the plot and the humorous characters are what really got me into this. The dynamics with Wheatley and GLaDOS are really something to behold.
LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga (Wii): My second LEGO game after the first LEGO Star Wars. The sheer amount of content and characters really wowed me, even if the game got me into a seething hatred for LEGO Vehicle levels. I swear, those are the worst!
Pokemon SoulSilver: This was the first Pokemon I ever beat. Two regions, the PokeGear, the best touch screen use in the Gen 4 and 5 games, and its easy difficulty makes it the perfect start for any Pokemon newcomer. Although I'd never return to it after being spoiled by Gen 6 and 7, I still have fond memories of it.

@Snessy the duck I didn't have Superstar Saga, but I loved Partners in Time. Superstar Saga looks better, but unfortunately I've never played it. I do plan on getting it eventually though, and a GBA as I've sold the one I had as a child (actually I may have traded it in for a DS when those came out).
@FieryExplosion Oh yes, how could I forget Lego Star Wars? I had Lego Star Wars and the original trilogy on the gamecube. They were a great time. I also had the first Lego Indiana Jones which I loved because of my love for the movies, but it wasn't quite as fun as Lego Star Wars.
I too have fond memories of Brawl, especially in the story mode but also just in general. I think I'm more nostalgic for Melee because I was younger and it was one of the first games I played, but I have a lot of memories with Brawl as well.
I also loved Mario Party and still do. I think my favorite when I was younger was 5, though that's a bit of a blur since I only played at my friends' houses.
Here are a few a lot more games that slipped my mind:
Little Big Planet: How could I forget this one! This was the only PS3 game I really loved as a kid. The game is absolutely adorable and if you haven't played it you definitely should! I believe the online features have shut down so you can't play community levels anymore which sucks, but the main story is still worth the money and the level creation is simple but extremely powerful. I love how everything looks so crafty, like how you can see the ropes that hold the cardboard birds up and the bolts that rotate a character's arms and such. I have to get my brother to hook up his PS3 again so we can play it when I come home!
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess: I'm not sure how I didn't remember to include this one at first. It was the Zelda game I've played most, and by now my brother and I have probably replayed it over 10 times from start to finish. I know it isn't technically the best Zelda game out there, but my nostalgia for it brings me back to it.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword: I was in late middle school when this game came out, but I remember playing it a lot with my brother and his friends. I still think it's one of the best Zelda games, despite the controls taking a while to adjust to. The story is beautiful, the style is very pretty despite the Wii's capabilities hindering it, and the characters are all so likable (except Fi). Groose is hilarious, Impa is a badass, and Link and Zelda's little awkward teen romance is adorable. I also love the atmosphere of the game, especially in Skyloft. The outfits the inhabitants wear and the design of the structures along with the peaceful music is so beautiful. I'd live there if I could.
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door: I'm surprised I forgot this one too. I actually didn't play it as a very young child for some reason. It would have been right up my alley. I first played it the summer after 8th grade (about 6 years ago? I'm bad at math) when I was moving houses. I remember playing it at night after packing up a ton of boxes in the daytime. Not much has to be said about how awesome this game is. My only regret is not playing it sooner.
Mario Golf (the Gamecube one): I played this at my grandma's house on her gamecube.... that's all I remember about it. I don't like golf games much.
Metroid Prime (esp. 2): Mostly watched my brother play the main story, but we played the multiplayer a lot with my cousins.
Wii Sports: Pretty much everybody who got a Wii as a kid though.
Mario Kart Double Dash and Mario Kart DS: DD was my main Mario Kart as a kid, but I also remember playing the DS Mario Kart with friends at school.
Here are some kind of obscure games that I used to love as a kid:
The Haunted Mansion: This game is bad, but it has some really nice enemy and environment designs. This is another game I played with my brother a lot, and we recently replayed it and had a blast, despite how poorly designed some aspects of the gameplay are.
Rampage: Total Destruction: Just replayed this one recently and it's bad, but I liked it. I think I only had it for a couple weeks because it was a rent from Blockbuster, but I was surprised upon playing it again how accurately I remembered everything.
Goblin Commander: Did anyone have this game? I liked it but it was also a blockbuster rental so I barely played it. Strangely, though, I've remembered it ever since and until a few days ago I couldn't recall the name. I luckily stumbled across it while searching for gamecube games online, and I'm tempted to buy it seeing how cheap it is on eBay.
Harry Potter 1-4 (gamecube): I liked these, especially the first three. I liked 4 because of the multiplayer though.
Spider-Man 2: I liked this one, but I mostly watched my brother play it.
Tony Hawk Underground: I played the multiplayer mostly and made lots of hot avatars in coconut bras...
Tak and the Power of Juju 2 The Staff of Dreams: Did anyone play this one?
