Then why is it that Cranky is old but Mario is not?
Is it because Jumpman is mario's father or something? Has it ever been explained?

Cranky being the original DK was Rare's invention and is not actually recognized as canon by Nintendo.

No, I think DKC games are ok. Diddy does appear in a number of Mario spinoffs so its probably safe to say they're fine. Probably best not to put too much thought into it tho.

I mean it's confusing because I think K. Rool and his kremlings also appeared in one of Mario's Baseball games.
Maybe that means DKC is canon... and that Cranky is canon... right?

In DKC, Cranky Kong calls himself a "pappy" and "grandpa", and in DKC2, Cranky specifically refers to DK as his "grandson".

Of course, it's also possible that family relationships in the DK universe are not biological relationships - just as there are many cultures where it's commonplace for people to refer to others as "brother" or "sister" or "aunt" or whatnot, even if they're not related through blood, marriage, or adoption. After all, many of the Kongs appear to be different primate species.

Before you get sarcastic, maybe you should actually read my post. I never said Cranky wasn't DK's Grandfather. I said he's not the original DK.

Here on MFGG, we take our DKC lore seriously.
Cranky Kong is the kind of character who might spin the occasional tall tale, but on the other hand, today's DK seems quite a bit different from the original DK, so I suspect they're different characters. (Maybe DK is the original DK Jr.)
