Should users be able to lock and/or archive their own threads? - GamerInGeorgia - 03-06-2018 The title says it all. I don't know if it's possible in the first place, but this will (1) lessen the staff's workload by a little bit and (2) allow the users a bit more freedom. (Admins will still be able to lock threads that have gone too far or are pointless.) RE: Should users be able to lock and/or archive their own threads? - Pedigree - 03-06-2018 Unfortunately, I don't think this is a good idea. Too many possibilities for abuse for either ability. Even if they are limited to their own threads? RE: Should users be able to lock and/or archive their own threads? - Kritter - 03-06-2018 Locking your own thread could be useful for things like if you've scrapped a game but people keep bumping the topic. Rather than PMing an admin and bugging them, you could simply just close your own topic. I really can't see it being abused too much, but maybe i'm being idealistic. I don't think having the power to archive is a good idea though. RE: Should users be able to lock and/or archive their own threads? - Pedigree - 03-06-2018 People could use it to shut down discussions if they aren't going the way they'd like, for example, which is judgement best left to a moderator when it comes to whether or not a topic is worth continuing. While locking a cancelled project thread may be practical, requesting a lock through reports isn't that big a deal and it's a simple tick of a checkbox for moderators to do. Not to mention, I'm not sure how much of the mod CP a member would need access to for the lock permissions to work properly. MyBB has had weird permission issues that MFGG staff has had to use the equivalent of duck tape and superglue to get working. RE: Should users be able to lock and/or archive their own threads? - Cruise Elroy - 03-11-2018 Eh, we usually end up locking 90% of the threads that get requested to be locked anyway. I'm personally a bit split on this because, while it might not be all that likely one would lock their own topic if they are not met with the praise they are expecting, there still may exist a possibility. I guess the only real way to know how it would go is to try it out. Of course, though, the user should not have the option of unlocking it if an admin/moderator has already done so. They'd have to request it be unlocked in that case. |
