It should also be noted that Shigeru Miyamoto is Bowser Jr.'s "mother" and that no Mario game has discussed exactly where Toads come from!

"@Jaden1291 the Toad" I want to play the game that takes place in an alternate timeline where Peach and Bowser get married and adopt a bunch of cute little abandoned Toad and Koopa babies, and everyone lives in harmony until The New Big Bad threatens the Mushroom World.

Donkey Kong also has Peach kidnapped in that one classic arcade game, but at least it makes more sense, given it's a reference to King Kong (and don't forget the evolution theory). Funnily enough, I haven't seen him being interested in her at all in the newer games. Did he just forget about her, or was that game not canon?

Welp, my bad. I didn't really know the actual name until now, and she does look different than actual Peach. So, Mario had to rescue another princess/girl other than Peach in the past, then that "Pauline" is forgotten? Interesting, gotta wonder if it could be argued if that is canon as well.

Pauline returned in the Mario vs Donkey Kong series, and then officially appeared in the main series in Super Mario Odyssey.

For what it's worth, Pauline is also one of the filler characters on the tournament leaderboards in Mario Golf.

Pauline was obscured after Princess Peach replaced her. I assume a princess who rules over little mushroom people was probably seen as more interesting than an ordinary woman, and rightfully so. Pauline is making a comeback though as an interesting character in her own right, with Super Mario Odyssey featuring her as a main character in a main series Mario game.
