Pixel Game Maker MV / Action Game Maker MV - sc00pj0hn - 05-22-2018

So the folks over at Kadokawa (who have acquired rights to Enterbrain/ASCII's RPG Maker series, or lesser known as the "Maker" series) announced a new entry to their Game Making tool series. After their return to non-RPG making entries starting with VNMaker (a visual novel creating software), the first non-RPG Maker to be released since their japanese-only entries in the late 1990s, Kadokawa has intention to reveal the long-awaited sequel to the poorly sold IG Maker, known as Action Game Maker MV, in the west known as... Pixel Game Maker MV. I haven't bought IG Maker, but from the looks of it, it's a pretty interesting software to try from the folks over at Enterbrain's fellow and quite innovative ways to game making software from Japan, despite the western name being totally lame...

Currently the software's page is teasing the software's capabilities, from what it states on the images, Pixel Game Maker MV's programming types seem to borrow from RPG Maker MV, as in using both a workflow-driven interface for eventing and the use of Javascript for bringing more functionalities, thus making the software more affidable to beginners alike to experts. A new particular function is that it allows creators to implement local Multiplayer functionalities, known as “Multi-Viewpoint/Multi-Versus”, but theorically in a pretty easy way. I could be interested in using it for ideal local multiplayer. And as usual, graphic importing, a physics engine, particle effects and multiple layers could serve the user to rich it up.

I found a video explaining every single detail found so far.
I don't know why i can't embed videos so i'll just leave it as a link.
Yes, i know this dude gets really upset too much when he finds the flowchart part (yes, this is really what looks like when programming), but once we will get to more details this summer, we will find out how it works. Keep an eye to this software!

Neat! It'll be interesting to see how this develops - RPG Maker is obviously a big name in the RPG-making niche, and this could prove to be a solid competitor to Game Maker and Clickteam.

This seems interesting. Especially the multiplayer part. I wonder what new opportunities this will lead to.

Seems like the page for Pixel Game Maker MV is up now: https://store.steampowered.com/app/837510/Pixel_Game_Maker/

But don't be fooled, it's not out yet.

Seems cool. The setup is pretty nice and looks intuitive. I never did a project with RPG maker but this seems promising and worthwhile for platform games.

Incase someone hasn't seen the trailer in the Steam page, i'm giving the one and only dated piece of interface of the program:

Now with that only screenshot, i can probably compare it to the past RPG Maker entries and analyze it. My speculations:
  • We've got 7 types of sections we have in Pixel Game Maker MV: Scenes, which are basically maps. Tilesets is for managing the tiles for the game. Animation might be used for editing animations from existing imported graphics. Objects, which can be players, enemies, bosses, HUD elements, etc. Then we got Material, which i believe is supposed to be a section where you can import graphics, sounds, etc., just like RPG Maker. Transition... could it be a section to manage scene transitions? And then we got Plugin, where we can import JavaScript to add more functionality to the program's game.
  • Only so far, since the only screenshot of the program is available here, only the Scene editor is shown, so let me clarify it: You can insert Tiles, Objects, Physics and Other just like in RPG Maker due to its similar editor. One different thing from RPG Maker MV is that you can insert up to 4 layers and add multiple tilesets in a scene.
Well, that's it. Still not really satisfied with the content they have shown yet, hope they should show more after the release date will be announced or something.

Ooh. Me likey.

Hopefully though they make it so that people couldn't even tell it was made with the engine. Something that was a problem for RPG Maker.

I'd apologize for the delay, but few days ago Pixel Game Maker MV came out... and it's not very stable as planned. People have experienced lots of problems such as constant crashes, and the GUI of the program is confusing to understand. Considering there isn't a decent documentation for it, this engine is like it emerged from a abandoned fossil and it needs to be researched by people. It's gonna be one hell of a time for this software to be improved at all due to the amount of bugs in the software. Archeia, one of RPG Maker Web Forums' staff, has took a look at this program and noted lots of bugs around the program.
Regarding the price, well, it's not going to be turning well, too! Right now, on this week, there's a -20% off to the price of 71,99€ (here in Europe) and ends after the 29th of July. Eventually, when the software is fully stable, the price rises up to 99,99€, yes, freaking 100 dollars.

Since i cannot talk a lot more about it, here's a hands-on video i found: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcB5L4h2a8o
I'd just get the software when my friend manages to get me the funds to do it because i don't want to get it only if the software is fixed, but that's just me.
