Nekojiru (a "cute" manga that is not for kids) - sc00pj0hn - 05-29-2018
As you can see right now, my avatar represents Nyatta from Nekojiru (aka Cat Soup), a Seinen manga series that was popular from the 1990s, known for its absurd and strange stories. It was written by Nekojiru herself until her suicide in the end of the 1990s. Currently his husband seems to keep working on Nekojiru stuff but it seems further progress has been halted, due that things like this tend to lose popularity when the author doesn't exist anymore.

It's not really a kids manga you expected to if you think the art style looks that cute, because it hides behind a tragic feeling about them, strange stuff and violent content. Not much english stuff exists of it, but so far there's only Nekojiru Udon (the first Nekojiru manga), Nekojiru Gekijou Jiru Jiru (the anime that adapts several stories from many Nekojiru manga) and Cat Soup / Nekojiru-Sou (the latest Nekojiru-related media i can think of which is a 40-mins(?) long OVA).
Really sad to see Nekojiru is not getting any attention to this day, but it's just like rediscovering old gems off a abandoned mine.

I watched the anime adaptation just a second ago. Wow, that WAS violent and really absurd! It's not my cup of tea, so I don't think I'll be watching the rest of these.
This is like the opposite of Yotsuba
Curiously, I have a cat pillow that looks similar to the cat people from Nekojiru!
I'm never going to unsee it.

There's been Nekojiru merchandise since it was popular in the 1990s. Would even be more surprised if i'd seen them in real life, but i live in Italy and it's very unlikely for me to see them outside Japan.
