Hello, it's been almost 2 decades since i started making a game, fangame or otherwise, while the early games like USMW/2 and Luigi Forever were filler flops, SMB8 was an ambitious project (which took the longest to produce), though the results weren't as expected due to my inexperience at the time and me really wanting to make a game, which i rushed too. Can't say i'm proud of that one either, i attempted to revive it in a new fresh look, but alas, USB Fix decided to troll me and flagged all of my files as false positive, which destroyed my files...
I'm still make Mario fangames, but on a smaller scale (i e Mario Forever based).
If you remember Gabbie in any way (whether you like or not like the character is justifiable), i sort of felt she's out of place in a Mario game, even in solo variants, and she could've been Peach, nonetheless, i'm planning to overhaul the character in a start from scratch original RPG game. Though i haven't decided on the goal, motif or world, but with how tight my schedule is, progress might be bit slow, and i'll try my hardest not to rush it out like the old one.
Further updates will be revealed. Any suggestion and criticism is appreciated. Thumbs Up

Hey, welcome back!

Sorry to hear you lost a lot of your files. That's a bummer indeed. Make sure to keep multiple sets of backups in multiple locations next time.

And yes, I remember Gabbie. I agree that she might be better-suited to an original RPG than a Mario platformer. What tool are you planning to use for your RPG project? RPG Maker?

If you're planning to make a traditional JRPG, using one of the RPG Maker products is probably going to be easier than using GM.

I finally finished my GM RPG project in 2023, and developing the engine was very time-consuming.

That said, if you have enough time and patience, making an RPG engine in GM would be an awesome learning experience. It's also possible that there could be a decent premade GM RPG engine out there nowadays - I'm not sure.

Honestly, since this is my first time, i'll start with a traditional RPG game to get an experience of how it should work. Which makes RPG Maker a much more viable option.

I advise using GM because you will learn more and it gives you a bit of leeway for creative freedom regarding how your RPGs will execute. I advise using Studio 1.4 or even GM8 (GM8.2 specifically) because GMS2 is pretty bloated, also its UI is awful.
A new signature is on the works but have this:

True - if you have the time and the desire to make an original engine, GM gives you a lot more control and flexibility compared to RPG Maker. That's the main reason I ended up making an original engine for my RPG.

I've been using GM Studio 2 for my recent projects. I still need to give GM 8.2 a try though.

I have not settled on something at the moment, so i thought i'd do an Undertale fangame from scratch.
(This is on GM 8, btw because hell no, GMS2 is so confusing and bloated.)
