While I've been taking a huge break from my hobbyist work, I ended up learning how to use Godot for game development, and it has been a really interesting journey so far. I was initially using it to port over a project that was originally made in Game Maker Studio, but then I saw SMW ROM Hacker wye's ongoing series where he remakes Super Mario World in Godot.

A bit of inspiration later, I decided to do a complete port-over and overhaul of my last released project to basically improve it in many ways, like the level design, gameplay functionality, sprite work, and A LOT of bug fixes and quality of life improvements.

or basically, make it suck less

I've put small and extremely infrequent teasers of it in the MFGG Discord when I had free time to work on it, and now, after approximately 31 days since I started the port over (give or take), I can finally showcase a quick video of it:

There will be several changes in this port regarding the story, level design and level graphical themes (mostly so that it doesn't feel repetitive, is more consistently modernised, among other things).

With the story updates, you'll now start the game choosing to play as either Mario (solo), Luigi (solo), or both together. This choice affects Plus Mode (unlocked after completing the main story with all special coins). For example, if you play as Luigi and unlock Plus Mode, you'll continue as Mario. You'll be able to can switch between the Bros. by pressing Select.

In addition to that, Plus Mode will also have straight up new level design (and some time of day changes), and while some of its bosses will just be harder versions of the main story versions, others will be straight up new bosses. Oh, and beating the main story as both Mario & Luigi will unlock a special character with his own campaign set after the main story, featuring his set of boss battles not in Mario or Luigi's Plus Mode.

A special thanks to @KrystalPhantasm for her help in providing her Tanooki Engine/GBC Mario project remnants which were a huge help for this project, alongside @hdtv, PicoMico and Kembi Mekemo for their help with the 2.0 sprite revamps (some of the enhanced sprites were further modified from their work).

Do not expect frequent updates on this project, and keep any expectations for it in check as I am still taking a general break from hobbyist work. In fact, there is a high chance I might never end up releasing this for whatever reason.

It's been about 4 weeks since I posted the 2nd video on this project on YouTube and subsequently forgot to post it here. Oops.

I also wanna state that I forgot to record a section dedicated to how the P-Switches were ported over and work a lot better (their effects actually persist when changing rooms). Double oops.

Now, given the time between the YouTube upload and this forum post, a lot of additions, bug fixes and other changes were done to the project (like progress on Water Palace, port overs of other elements, etc). For anyone interested in seeing slightly more frequent updates I recommend checking them out in the MFGG Discord server (it's also where I posted the missing P-Switch footage).

I might edit this post later to have other updates once I make another YouTube video of it (or maybe make a new post about it depending on how long it takes.)
List of projects I eventually plan to finish after the indefinite hiatus is over, assuming I don't abruptly cancel them:
[+]Spoiler
Mario's Rather Unusual Trilogy (Mario's slightly unusual Boss Rush (Completed), Mario vs. Some Unusual Foes (In development), Mario's VERY Unusual Final Frontier (In development))
Sonic's Foray into Random/Unusual Zones (spin-off of Unusual Trilogy, in development)
Angry Birds Slingshot Frenzy (In development)
Super Mario Flashback: Really Good Edition (In development)
Super Hilda DX (In only conceptual phase)

Yes, I am aware that I have about 6 or so fangame projects currently in development at the same time. And yes, I am also aware that all of this is very ambitious.
+ List of projects I'm helping out with in some small capacity during my hiatus:
[+]Spoiler
Super Mario Bros Dimensions 2 (as a spriter, only for Mario's sprites)
MFGG Community Fangame Project 3 (as a spriter)
WordGirl ReWired (as a artist)
