Back in the day, before I joined MFGG the first time, when I was into sprite comics, Geoweasel, a sprite comic site (turned into a Flash animation series) had a GroupBoard (a drawing board, with chat and games), on its site. This is essentially where I met all of my own sprite comic friends. The GroupBoards (an actual brand) are now completely different, used for education purposes. However, there was a top-down view Tank game where you could have up to four players, and used the keys on the keyboard to move around obstacles to shoot each other, a battle royal. I think this game was just called Tanks. I used to play it with my real life friends online after my sprite comic days dissolved.

Now that I am returning to NES, there are two games in similar style, Battle City and Iron Tank. Here is a screen shot from Battle City.

The tank game from the GroupBoard was more colorful, I don't think the background was just black. But I have been looking for this game everywhere, to no availability or information, for that matter, anywhere, which is why these games are a great find.

Do you have any recommendations for me, as a player who likes old tank games?

Battle City is a fun game, did you know that there's a prequel and a sequel released in arcades (Tank Battalion and Tank Force)? It's just that the NES version is the most famous one.

The tank games that I liked to play back then were Super Battletank and Super Battletank 2 on SNES, and BattleTanx on N64.

I absolutely loved Laser Tank as a kid.
It's not really a game about battling; it's more of a puzzle game, but I found it very addicting.

Also, awesome website that they have.

Oh hell yeah, I played a ton of Battle City as a kid on my Game Boy. Great game, think it's been ported to a lot of platforms back in the day. The Arcade version is on sale right now on eShop as well.
I make games with my friend DJ Coco sometimes. Check them out here: https://cliax-games.com/

Cool, cool, cool.

The reason I made this topic, rather than posting in my NES topic, is because I can get deeply into this "genre". I'll get back to you guys when I play some more, might find me some more modern games too. Let me know if you have some newer ones, cause I have definitely seen a lot of newer "tank" sprite sheets going through sprite collections.

I actually like modern, non-top down view tank games too, like multiplayer online 3D tank games.

Anyone played Combat on the Atari 2600? It's two-player only, but it has some really cool game modes, such as stealth mode, or steerable missile mode.
