I'm curious, what is the algorithm that determines which games end up in the hall of fame? I haven't been able to figure it out.

Maybe they're selected by the site's staff.

They're taken from Vinny's Official List of Cool Stuff.
They're actually based on an algorithm that Mors made a bunch of years ago. The formula usually works reasonably well, but it seems to produce odd results at times, especially for the current year. I also think it needs readjusting for two more recent changes: 1. It should incorporate the Plays metric now that MFGG supports HTML5 games 2. We should probably reduce the weight for Page Views because bot activity has increased dramatically in recent years Course clear! You got a card.

yeah i forgot exactly how i made it work but it's based on a combination of factors, like views, downloads, and even the number of reviews and review scores if i recall correctly. it could be tweaked though i agree

I made a few tweaks today. The new formula now considers the Plays stat for HTML5 games. Also, it drastically reduces the weight for Views, since bots often go haywire and inflate page view numbers.
I think the new formula generates better results, though I'm still confused about why Midas Machine isn't appearing on the 2026 page. Course clear! You got a card.
