I'm usually able to run old Clickteam games in Windows 10. However, Yoshi's Island PC, a circa-2000 TGF fangame, doesn't seem to like my PC. After installing the game, I get a "File error!" message when I attempt to run the .EXE. Compatibility Mode doesn't help.

I could probably use a VM or drag out an old Windows XP machine to play it, but maybe there's someone here who would be able to figure out the problem.

I can confirm it works just fine on Windows 7, having reviewed it not that long ago. It never really gave me any trouble as far as I can recall, so I guess it's an issue that was introduced in 8/8.1/10

This is just an error relating to BASS.DLL
https://www.dropbox.com/s/hkui4goi7wmqwgg/bass.dll?dl=0
Drop this into the directory that the game is installed to, and it should start right up.

Thanks @"Nite Shadow"! Putting bass.dll in the directory solved everything.

If anyone else has a similar problem, I recommend trying Nite's solution.
Course clear! You got a card.

Drawing a blank on this, what does the "bass.dll" file do, by any chance?

It's been a while so don't cite me on this, but I believe "bass.dll" is a sound driver of some sort that a certain extension for TGF uses - Yoshi's Island PC is notable for using "authentic" YI music straight from the SNES, but since I haven't played it in a while I forgot if it actually plays back .SPC music or if it's all just really compressed .WAV files instead.

It's a DLL file which is called by the DMC DMC2 and DMC3 (Digital music control) objects. It was used for it's capability to play .Mod .XM .It and .Mp3 in TGF, which didn't support these formats natively. This is why you also get a "File Error!" message when you attempt to run that game without it in place.
