Sad; it's already sold out. I hope that they can download more bandwidth so you can enjoy those NES classics.

Did you have the chance to buy Nintendo Online? Are you happy about it?

Honestly, this is just outrageous. Yet another case of Nintendo underestimating consumer demand and putting in a low supply. Hopefully, they'll do a reissue of this soon, maybe with a warranty if Nintendo Online ever breaks on me and needs to be repaired.

Admittedly very funny joke article aside, I'm not crazy about the service so far, as I've said a few other places. In my eyes, Nintendo is charging for online that might actually be worse than the Wii U's. Sure, it's cheap, but it also says a lot that I still don't really find it worth it.

It's telling that when I went to purchase the online subscription it kept having errors that it couldn't connect and returning me to the eShop. I ended up being able to do the free trial, but if they can't handle the online now then I don't really know what it is that I'm paying for.

I think it's hilarious that Nintendo expects me to pay 20 bucks a year (or a couple bucks a month!) so that I can keep using their mediocre P2P online multiplayer and to "sweeten the deal" they're also letting me play Ice Climber and Balloon Fight free of charge. But don't worry, they'll add tons of more viable titles along the way, trickling them out even though they've released these same games one by one three times over already on the Wii, the 3DS and then the Wii U.

Sure, it's cheap, but it's also not something I'm interested in paying for.

If the connection really is this bad then I won't bother with it. I didn't use Wii U's online for anything because it sucked, so I'm definitely not going to pay for the Switch's online if it isn't a huge improvement.

Funny thing about the NES games: it uses the Classic's or 3DS' emulation and .nes files. People are expecting quick hacking of anything NES soon.

Switch's online service is so disappointing. When it was first announced before the launch of the Switch, I thought, "Well if it's only 20 bucks, might as well pay for it, even if it's just for Smash Bros mostly."

But then it was supposed to come out, and they delayed it. "Well fine, more time to play for free, and they're probably not happy with how it's shaping up, so they're improving it. And Nintendo has a history of delaying stuff and it comes out better."

But now it's out, after one and a half year of playing games for free. And it's pretty much EXACTLY what they originally announced: online play, NES games, and cloud saves.
What the heck have they been doing for a year?

And here is why what we ended up getting sucks:
The online infrastructure is exactly the same thing we had since the Wii. Peer-to-peer connections instead of dedicated servers. Friend codes. Limited communication capabilities.
There are a couple of things they actively took away with the Switch, compared to the Wii.
On Wii we could export and import save data, backing it up permanently. On Switch? Gotta pay for a service and if you stop paying, your stuff is gone. And it doesn't even work with all games, in particular those who you'd probably care most about to have backed up, such as Splatoon 2. And despite all your scores being ALREADY stored on Nintendo's servers, (because you can access that information on your phone app), you can for some reason not access that data when logging into your account on another Switch.
On Wii we had Virtual Console with NES, SNES, N64 and various 3rd-party consoles from SEGA and others. Everyone was getting excited for the logical next step on the Wii U: GameCube, and even handhelds. But what did we get? No gamecube, and less games, and we had to even PAY to transport the stuff we already had from the Wii to the Wii U. PER GAME.
And on the Switch? Just NES games and a lousy handful at that.

And then there's that useless Smartphone App.
I have a huge amount of friends, in particular from MFGG, registered as friends on my Switch. But I have never played with ANYONE of them online!
Why? Because there is no way to INVITE a friend to your game. If it's already gotta be a phone app, it would be perfect for having a constant connection to your Switch friends. "Wanna play some MK?" "Yeah sure, give me 5 min" "Cool I'll open a room", and then you boot up your Switch. But instead you have to COINCIDENTALLY play the same game at the same time, or arrange your play session in an EXTERNAL messenger.
So that means, in order to play any Switch game with my friends, I need not one, not two, but THREE systems all working together: the switch, the smartphone app, and Skype. And since not everyone is using Skype anymore these days, I have to add some friends on Facebook, some on Discord, some on Slack, and some on whatever other obscure service.

So yeah.
I'm pretty disappointed. And I'm trying to not get it when Smash comes out even though Smash's online play is these days the only thing I'm interested in, since I have no offline Smash playing friends who satisfy my competitive itch. But I'm probably gonna bite. And they'll read it as a message that "it's good enough, people are paying, let's improve nothing."

I'm curious, how often are you guys playing on Switch with online friends, instead of random strangers? Am I exaggerating this? Am I missing something? It feels so unreal to me, that this stupid app doesn't have any kind of global communication features, not even an "invite to my game" button.

Honestly I think it's a good thing Nintendo doesn't have some kind of messenger. Others do it better, best play to their own strengths (which aren't online at all really LOL)

I love the part where I need to attach a PayPal or a credit card in order to take part in the free one-week trial.

Wait
Falcon Punch is the result of the Sun heating fists. It drives the Blue Falcon. Heating causes destruction of water into the pain, where it then hurts, creating rain. Rain creates flowing water in tears, which can then be converted into other forms through more pain.

so now that i'm not f'd up and liable to spew crap out of my big mouth that'd get me in trouble, i figure why not say what i think. i feel as if this thread is a bit too negative, even though it's not entirely unwarranted.

the switch's online is underwhelming, but as i don't play many games online, it's at least tolerable, i guess. the nes games are a nice touch especially considering that a subscription to the service they're on only costs twice as much as netflix does per month for a full year. that said, it's not like i don't have a lot of these games in other formats already, but i do appreciate they're adding games slowly. not quickly enough, but what are you going to do, i suppose. what'd be great is if they added more game systems to the rotation, so i could finally play paper mario on a portable system. anyways.

i haven't bothered with the voice chat app for the service because i'm gonna be honest. voice chat in online games is cancer. if i really wanted to listen to people spew vile nonsense or be berated by tryhards who blame everyone but themselves for their team not winning a non-ranked match, i could buy a headset for my xbone and play halo. to be fair, it could come in handy for talking with my friends on online games, but if it's like guinea says, then that's a big load of horse manure. granted, i feel as if guinea is being excessively negative about the whole thing, but even so i know he's got to be onto something in the absence of myself having tried the blasted app

it's a good thing nintendo decided to make this cost $20 a year, because if it had been as much as the online services for xbox and playstation, i wouldn't be telling you about how i purchased the online right out of the gate. it's definitely inferior to those services in the state that it's in, but let's be honest with ourselves. nintendo is always behind the curve on stuff like online, even if they're on point on other things. granted, i'm not a big fan of xbox live or playstation plus as it stands, even though i appreciate the freebies that come with those services. anyhow i'm willing to play the waiting game on this one and see if they add more stuff that makes it feel like a better deal, but who knows if i won't end up eating my words for thinking that it could end up being more worthwhile down the line.
