A while ago i met a talented friend from Skype called Yoobii who was making RPG Maker games featuring female protagonists. I became his friend thanks to his games being known for having life-centered themes about friendship and grief. So far he has made few certain games, such as:
  • Annventure, a Earthbound based RPG about a girl who suddenly gets a bad consciousness from her awakening.
  • Annabelle (remake here), a Yume Nikki based RPG which follows her journey into her mind to find reasons of her bad relationship with her father.
  • The Brains & The Brawn (currently wip), a (originally side-scrolling) RPG about a duo of high school girls who team up to fight villains in a shallow urban city known as Ravena.
  • Mute, a short story about laziness and negative effects.
For RPG fans, i'd recommend to start with Annventure, as it offers a simplistic, charming pixel art style with an easy start. Thought the story gets a little dark onwards, the game features a innocent looking cast. Otherwise, there's The Brains and the Brawn, which offers a more unique urban setting featuring a story that has to do with bullies.
For non-RPG fans, Annabelle is the right start, which features a gameplay similar to Yume Nikki, just that it's way more linear and the remake features a little challenge to get the keys to the doors (there's an early original version in his GameJolt profile which is way easier but has outdated graphics).

These games have some good main character designs. My favourite is Brains and Brawn from TB&TB.

Never played games like this before that have been done in RPG Maker, but it's great to see folks who are dedicated to do games that feature female leads in any category, RPGs included.

Hope he continues this.

So The Brains & The Brawn is getting a big overhaul after the release, which seems to transition the game's sidescrolling aspects into a topdown overworld perspective.
When i played these games, the music compositions weren't bad, but sometimes they were too simple. I possibly heard that this game might be a candidate to get on Steam.
I've did some fanart of the main characters but i can't share them yet.
