What are coins for?

When I joined I saw there was coins that you could donate and stuff but I could never figure out what their purpose is? Is it just for show or something like that, or can you buy stuff?

It's not been decided yet, for now it's just useless.

chaoxys has suggested being able to buy trophies with them, but it's uncorfirmed if its gonna happen: https://forums.mfgg.net/showthread.php?tid=143
You may also suggest some use for the coins in the suggestion forum.

Right now, we use coins as the prize for certain events. Also, you can donate coins to a friend or someone who made an especially awesome post.

In the future, coins will have many more uses. You might be able to use them to buy badges or other special goodies for your profile.
