I've realized with my latest course in art that drawing before a pixel art creation is a very good idea. I got a perfect mark, guess my skills have improved. Have you guys drawn before pixel art always? Like sketch out your design on paper first? I think I'll start doing this.

I guess it depends on how big and detailed the sprites are.
Many people trace lineart and then crunch 'em into those little collored squares. However, if you are going for the retro feel, there's no much space to work with small sprites, but sometimes, less is more.
