Net Neutrality

So apparently Net Neutrality is supposed to end tomorrow (April 23rd, 2018). I honestly could care less, though I'm a bit excited to see what will happen to everything and how it'll effect everyone. Blocking off some sites could end up either for the best or the worse depending on how the site is viewed to some people.

What do you all think?

I don't think the changes will happen immediately.

Overtime though, things will get quite messed up, if anything happens. I think the status quo should be kept for now. Changing and manipulating speeds would come after the legislation ends.

Basic Internet? $19.99. Google? $5.99. Facebook? $5.99. MFGG and every other site? $29.99.

The internet could turn into cable in the near future if we don't do anything, with the same kind of trash.

I' pretty sure all the websites will cost a reasonable amount. However, I don' want the golden age of the internet to end.

The point is that internet service providers already nickel and dime their customers, making tons of profit. Charging for access to websites or else they throttle it will limit what content people can reach... And some won't be able to afford access to the internet at all.

Trust me when I say you shouldn't be down playing this disaster. It's going to have consequences for everyone except the elite.

I think some of the fears about net neutrality ("repealing net neutrality rules will destroy the Internet!") are overblown. ISPs already do some things that arguably violate current net neutrality rules (one random example). However, the FCC's proposal to scrap net neutrality rules would obviously embolden ISPs to do other things that are clearly prohibited by current rules.

I'm afraid that repealing net neutrality rules could stifle innovation and hamper the online experience, especially in areas where ISP competition is limited. In a lot of places, people only have one or two ISPs to choose from, so people can't switch to a competitor if their ISP does something they don't like.

As I wrote right before the recent FCC decision, I don't think this will be the end of the Internet as we know it. I do think it's cause for concern, though.

Somebody made a good post on Twitter about it. It's likely not to fall apart quickly; the public eye is on these ISPs. They likely know that making a change so suddenly would cause an uproar.

No, it's just going to get gradually worse and worse. They'll play the long con.
