I'm thinking of getting either an SNES or a GBA, but I'm not sure which to pick between the two. There are some good deals online for the SNES that comes with two controllers and Super Mario All-Stars+Super Mario World, which is a game I'd definitely try to get if I did get an SNES. The GBA is much cheaper but once I buy most of the Super Mario Advance games that would almost equate to the games that come with SMAS it would probably be a similar price.

Which do you think is the better buy? I'd be happy with either but I'm leaning slightly toward the SNES because I think it's easier to get other people involved in playing home consoles than portable ones, which are more solitary.

The only real benefit to the GBA versions is portability. The Advance ports have inferior sound (including a whole lot of very bit crushed voice acting added in) and washed out colours. They also have some added extra stuff, but only SMA3 and 4 have any new levels, and even then SMA4's new levels can only be accessed if you have an e-Reader and the appropriate cards (and another GBA).

I'd go with an SNES if I were you.

Alright, thanks! That's definitely what I was leaning toward.

Personally, if I didn't have either system, I'd go with a Super NES. The SNES has a fabulous library of games, and you'll usually get better graphics and audio quality.

However, if you went with a GBA, you would not be making a bad decision. As @Xander noted in this topic, the GBA has a lot of great games to choose from. The portability is nice, too.
Course clear! You got a card.

I also would choose a SNES. What Vinny said i also agree with plus in the original SNES versions of the GBA ports we didn't have the annoyingly repetitive mario/luigi/yoshi voices

GBA ports also have a smaller resolution, don't they? If that's the case, then the ports are definitely inferior.

SNES has a lot of iconic games that aren't all ported to GBA. You sacrifice portability, but you're able to sit in front of a TV and have an uninterrupted experience. I can never focus on games as well when I'm playing a portable console.

Thanks for the replies. I like a lot of the exclusive games that both provide, but I think I will go with the SNES. The GBA's portability is very nice and it has inferior but still pretty well done ports of my favorite SNES games, but the SNES will be easier to engage friends and family in which is how I have the most fun gaming. I've also never owned an SNES while I did own a GBA in the past, so it'd be a more exciting experience for me.

Super Mario All-Stars+Super Mario World is probably the best video game compilation of all time.

I love the GBA. Love it. But SMAS+SMW belong on the SNES.

I will definitely take the SNES.

Better graphics, better sound, a more standard control layout with 4 face buttons, L and R, and I could just go on.

Why not both?

By the way, I know of a good snes "clone" console that imitates the snes through the use of an fpga. Which means that it basically works exactly the same with no input lag or weird graphical/audio quirks and you get to play it on a modern tv.

Here is the site: https://www.analogue.co/pages/super-nt/

If decide to get a gba, you can get a modded one here: https://www.retromodding.com/collections...oy-advance

I'd get both but I can't afford it, also I'm preoccupied with the 3DS which I got recently.

That's very interesting, I had never heard of that. Thanks for letting me know.

If I had the money I'd buy both, but unfortunately that's not the case right now Other Big Brin

I've seen the Super NT before and it's definitely on my radar for something to get in the future. I'm glad they brought the price down from the NT Mini. While seriously cool, that one is seriously expensive lol
