Hello everyone. I'm Koopaul. Maybe some of you heard of me? It's been a while I know.

Anyway, a while ago I started collaborating with another person who wanted to get into making games. We started working together and put together a tech demo of sorts. However, (and I want to put this nicely) the guy wasn't as dedicated to the project as I had hoped. There were long periods of time where I wouldn't hear from him or he had forgotten what we were doing. We decided to move on from our current project and start fresh using Unity instead of Game Maker. Unfortunately its the same story as we seem to be unable to move forward.

Either way, that brings me here. I'd like to fill my game making void by hopefully helping to collaborate with anyone here in any little way I can. I'm sure some of you could use the extra help, and I'd be willing to work just for the experience.

Here is the tech demo we put together. It's clearly just a bunch of incomplete ideas but you can see what I have done.

I came up with the game concept, the characters, enemies, graphics, and I assembled most levels. My partner did the programming and the music. So if anyone is interested in having me on board even to help out a little I'd be willing. I'd like the experience of working with other people on a project.

Thank you.

Welcome back!

At this point in time, I can't commit to giving a lot of game-making help - I seldom have time and motivation to work on my own things, for that matter. However, I'm always happy to test things and give feedback.

Yeah I'm busy too unfortunately. I'd love to test things out for you though.

If you guys could give me some feedback on the game stuff I make I would like that too. Feel free to download that game in the first post. It's not much. Just a tech demo. But I'd like to hear what you guys might have to say.

A few things I noticed:
  • The HUD is almost invisible - there's very little contrast between the black letters and the dark blue background
  • The text in the dialogue boxes is hard to read - try increasing the text size or using a different font
  • The camera is off-center - it's hard to see ahead of you
  • Adding more sound effects would enhance the experience
I hope this helps!

When I first started up the game, I couldn't tell whether the helper bee was a friend or foe. This could be just me, but I still suggest that you make it more clear what's what in the very beginning.
Also, what was the Unity project you started? Was it the same as the one you started in Gamemaker? Or a new project entirely?

I'm in the process of learning Unity right now. This prototype tech demo was made in Game Maker.

Yeah I realize it's lacking important things. There are no sound effects or a proper HUD because we prioritized testing the movement of the characters, the vacuuming, shooting, and objects interacting. But we were going to add those eventually.

As for the helper bee, thanks for letting me know it wasn't clear that he was friend or foe. Perhaps if the helper bee had a little floating speach bubble icon above it's head it would let people know more clearly that this is something you talk to and not avoid.

Finally the camera, yes that should be fixed shouldn't it? Especially in a game where you need to see enemies from all around.

Thanks for your advice.
