I want to get into the megaman games, but I find them too hard and tedious to enjoy. Can I get some recommendations on which megaman games are easy and fun? Fan games can also be recommended.

I don't know which ones you've tried. Megaman X is easier than the NES games though, isn't it?

Idk how easy it will be to find a megaman game at your level though.

I never tried megaman x. The ones I played are, 9, 10, 8, and 2. 2 was the only one I actually ever beaten. The rest were too frustrating for me to enjoy and I know 10 has an easy mode, but I never tried it. I'm not that into playing intense game that much. I am more of a casual gamer, playing a couple of levels and moving on to something else.

EDIT: Just beat 10 on easy mode with bass. It was fun and short, but was a tad too easy. It only took me an hour.

Unfortunately, most Mega Man games usually try to be pretty difficult (or at least moderately challenging), so asking for an easy title in the series might be barking up the wrong tree.

Best one I can recommend is probably Mega Man 5, as the item drop rate is a lot higher in that one.

I've also not gotten into Mega Man due to its difficulty. It could be that this just isn't the franchise for people who play games casually.

I find Mega Man 6 to be easiest out of them all, even when using only the Mega Buster. Mega Man X1 is also pretty easy and should only take you over an hour to complete if you know the weaknesses of each reploid, specially with all the upgrades.

But whatever you do, don't pick up Mega Man 3 if you don't want to break your controller in half. It's difficulty is up with that of Ninja Gaiden Mad .

As for Mega Man 5, why do people find it to be the easiest one? I remember some of its bosses being pretty damn hard.

If you're playing one on an emulator you could always use a Gameshark / Game Genie code to get infinite energy if you're just interested in a casual romp through some levels. Either that or just spam saved states.

I actually don't mind doing that. I do that with a lot of games on emulators, but right now I'm looking for games that are easy enough without savestates.

This. It gives you more health and 1up pickups. It also does have a pretty powerful charge buster, so playing it with buster only is pretty easy (unlike most of the others).

Quote:As for Mega Man 5, why do people find it to be the easiest one? I remember some of its bosses being pretty damn hard.

The bosses aren't hard, as most (if not all of them) have fixed patterns (Charge and Wave Man have small RNG moments, but most of their patterns are fixed or depend on your movement, like staying close enough to them etc.). And if you use the robotmaster weapons on them, most of them will die in seconds.

The weapons suck though... besides buster, arrow and jet there is not much of use of these.

Do me a favor and think twice before playing 3 or 6 as your next titles...

6 is good, but has some weird control issues, especially the sliding (you can't jump out of a slide for example).

Megaman 3 is an interesting game, but it's not very fun to pick. It's the glitchiest and buggiest one of the NES titles and some levels (Wily levels and Doc) are badly designed (the Doc bosses are a mess). It also keeps eating button inputs (like you press the button to jump and Megaman doesn't jump) and has weird hitboxes everywhere. If you going to play 3, bring some patience with you, as this game likes to make you suffer (I even prefer MM1 over this).

I would rate the NES games like this:
MM5 > MM6 > MM4 > MM1 > MM2 > MM3

If 3 was the easiest one for you then you're really a pro.

Everyone thinks it's the most difficult one.

I believe you're talking about the game sprites flickering like hell when there are a gajillion enemies onscreen? Because I don't remember any glitches aside from that one.

Personally my favorite Megaman titles are 3, 7, 8, X2, and X4. They are fun, easy for casual players to grasp in my opinion. And 3 has great music!

As a side note, you could try Megaman Zero if you can get your hands on it. That one was super fun even though I don't remember any of it! I think that one was easier than the NES Megaman games.

If we are talking about hacks though, try Rockman 4 Minus Infinity. It is definitely one of the best hacks out there, of all hacks ever... or maybe just for Megaman hacks in general. Not so "easy", as it does bring it's own challenges, but it's a must if you are into the Megaman games and want something better than any official Megaman title. *gasp* yeah I said it.

Yeah, 7 and 8 are pretty easy. Even more with the ability to buy a ton of upgrades and items and lots of E tanks.

Quote:Because I don't remember any glitches aside from that one.

Then you're either lucky or you played a fixed or different version... this game really has some of the weirdest hitboxes and stuff going on. Remember the Mecha Keros? The little flea/frog like enemies? Try hitting it with the search snake while it sits on the ground and watch your snake just go through it like 80% of the time.

You can also semi air slide over 2x16 pixel pits sometimes. Best doable at Hard Mans level. Speaking of which, the bear trap like enemies are as well badly programed. When you step on their tile for the first time, it will be only visible, when it has already done the biting. After that, it will appear properly displayed, even before it bites.

The most famous glitch is the one with topspin when it's instantly killing bosses. That was never supposed to happen, it hits the enemy multiple times and ignores their invincible frames, causing them to die in a single hit. Another one is again with topspin, where you run out of it with one hit (especially if you use it on a enemy you can't kill with like the little bees in hard man), because on how buggy it is.

When using Rush Jet and being at the top of the screen (so that Megaman disappears and only Rush is visible), you can get hit by enemies at the bottom of the screen (seen the best at Doc Needles level, because you want to avoid any enemy possible).

Another thing that doesn't look like it was intended to happen, if you hit something with the Spark Shot, it usually freezes the enemy you hit with it. If an enemy touches the "shocked" enemy, it will push the frozen enemy out and take its place, which makes this weapon even worse than it is already.

Also yeah... now when you mention it... the slowdown is pretty bad in this game too (especially when you have a room with a lot of stuff like the fight against Air Man Doc).

The game can be easy though... if you want to cheat with the player 2 controller, because you can activate the debug functions, which are still left in the game. For example, freezing all enemies, jump out of pitholes, moonjump, etc. But this shouldn't be the reason to say that it's easy... it's cheating.

have you considered playing mega man 2 on the normal difficulty? the western version lets you pick from normal or difficult when you start the game, and i recommend the former for someone like you who doesn't want too terrible of a challenge. if you pick that at the start, your weapons will do double damage to the robot masters, which will make the bosses less of a pain in the butt. the levels still might be tricky, but it might be worth it just to kill metal man with a single shot from his own weapon.
