To those who have been following this topic but not the latest MFGG news, there's a new demo for Midas Machine! You can get it in the MFGG 20th Anniversary Time Capsule!!!

https://mfgg.net/index.php?act=resdb&par...2&id=38424

I played it and just beaten the last level available, although I still need to find some golden mushrooms and find certain exits. From what I've played, it's extremely good! There's so much stuff I could say about it, but I'll just say that you should play it now! I might give some more detailed feedback later.

@chaoxys @Guinea @Mors

So, how's the game right now? The game's description in the time capsule shares some rather gloomy news, but I hope that's not the last of it! Mors and chaoxys, were you two able to get back in contact with Guinea? I noticed that Guinea logged into the forums a few days ago, so he's still alive! I hope you got any issues sorted out (especially the team contact and Ogmo issues) and progress is getting back into good shape, no matter how slow it may be.

I wanted to make a post about this game in a bit more in detail later on (and will do that eventually) but to get the Time Capsule and Midas Machine ready in time I had to put some work aside, which is now biting me in the ass so I'll just answer your questions for now.

When it comes to the status of the development there isn't really much more going on than what I wrote in the Time Capsule really. The issue with the level editor still exists too, as I wasn't able to make the Ogmo editor work last time and I don't exactly remember why. I will probably need to look into that eventually. The rest is all stuff that can be easily fixed/added with more testing and time, which is something I lack rn.

Also, I wanna make one thing clear, at this point both Chaoxys and (especially) Guinea have moved on from the game, so if any of you wanna bother someone about the game, it's me.

I will mention that Mors will have my support on the game when the time comes, however it's no longer a major focus of mine as I'm now working on an original indie game. If Mors needs my help in the future, I'll set some time aside to do what I can, however I can't have it be a full time focus of mine anymore.

Ah, okay. Thanks for telling me that, Mors. Sorry for bothering you, chaoxys and Guinea!

What version of Ogmo were you trying to use? I know Guinea once said that they used an old version of Ogmo. I think you can find one through the Wayback Machine. Do you know what computer Guinea and chaoxys used when they were making the levels? Is it different than the computer you are using? If your computer is newer than theirs, then it might be a compatibility issue.

By the way, while I was browsing through the IPB forums, I found this silly topic: https://archive.mfgg.net/index.php?showtopic=234769

Who knows, maybe you'll find it motivational! Maybe when Midas Machine is finally finished, @MegaTailzChao really will eat his mustache when it grows! The MFGG Conference sounds like it could be really fun!

Well since there was recently activity again and I also happened to click my dusty MFGG bookmark within a reasonable timeframe of that happening, I'll just drop in and write a small post...

First of all, sorry for kinda fading out of this game's development like this. I kind of knew a long time ago I didn't have the time or the energy to finish it, mostly because it was just way too ambitious from the start. This was a game planned by a student who was spoiled by how much time he had on his hands, and somehow didn't calculate that a full job and other adult responsibilities can get in the way of it, especially if that job is already developing software for 8 hours a day that actually pays the bills.

And despite that, the scope of the game continued to grow faster than the progress I was able to make. If Chaoxys didn't come up with great ideas that would have been just such a missed opportunity to cut, I wasted some time myself on minor but fun features in the game, because I thought it'd bridge me over the boring or hard parts. E.g. an easter-egg at the end of Wario's first level where he can now give the train a Final Fantasy-style suplex Big Grin

But while knowing this, I really loved the project, and I wanted it to succeed, and so I never admitted to myself, and much less to others in any official way, that it would have been a better decision to just pass it on a few years earlier. I kept telling myself, and others, that eventually I would have time, eventually I'd make room for it, once I'd figured "it" all out. Maybe that still happens in the future, who knows! But certainly this will not happen any time soon, but probably the earliest when I retire at age 70 Whoops!

Unfortunately, the game is now really out of my hands, as I have had to upgrade my PC last year, and as such not even I have access to that working OGMO installation anymore. I sent Mors the installers once, so those definitely exist, but I guess the stars didn't align for him, and I can't really seem to get them to work on my new PC anymore either. Considering this is all based on some outdated Adobe platform that I've never heard of before nor since, that doesn't seem surprising.

Considering this whole thing started out as a "community" fangame project when the scope was a lot smaller, Chaoxys and I got pretty far along on our own despite us adding more and more on top of it, with the occasional guest level by Thunder Dragon. If there is still interest in this game (which I guess there is, considering I'm somehow receiving an MFGG-Awards badge every year), maybe it could work to make a community project out of this game again? Just thinking aloud. It would be a lot of work of course, and it wouldn't just be the fun parts. Someone would have to figure out what to do about the whole OGMO Editor situation, for example. Perhaps that alone would already improve the situation enough to help Mors.

Anyway, thanks for taking over, Mors. I never wanted to give it up, but I think it's in good hands with you. And with you porting it out of GM7 there is at least one barrier gone. And maybe the one with OGMO can be broken as well.

Thanks for all you guys' faith after all these years. Every time I get a little notification about a comment on the last trailer on YouTube or in this thread, I feel really good, and really bad at the same time.

Seeing Guinea's post, I wanted to mention I've been having a blast playing the newest demo of Midas Machine in MFGG's 20th Anniversary Time Capsule. I've been meaning to write a review for the Time Capsule but wanted to get through all the games first, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot people are playing it or wanting to review it.

I remember when this project was first suggested on the forums, I actually contributed some original music to Midas Machine (even a final boss battle theme) originally, but the music didn't fit in very well and I think the decision to change the soundtrack to Mario music was eventually made.

But damn, I wouldn't have imagined the game many years later would turn out THIS charming, fun, and layered with wonderful features, awesome level design (the experimental ghost world levels especially), replay value, and so much polished content! Midas Machine so far is incredible, the many level exits and secret areas on the map especially have been a treat. Excited to keep playing and eventually review it.

I believe you could finish this project. I think it's been like 14 years but in the last 3 years You didn't make any progress and it's not your fault. but i believe you can finish this project in 2025. It's sad to see a project like this go to Waste.

The thing is. if we want to finish this game we need to make actual progress we just need some people. And we need to think some on ideas.
