Back in the day I remember there being a Super Mario World game maker, I think it was Hello Engine/Game Maker or something like that. It was pretty easy to customize your own graphics, sounds and levels, and even mess with script to put in things like parallax. Is there an equivalent for Super Mario Bros?
The reason I'm asking is because I just want to see what a SMB1 game would look like with my own aesthetic graphical and musical preferences. I have considered Super Mario Bros. X, but I suspect I'd have to learn LunaLua to get SMB physics, and to be frank, I don't really want to spend time cloning all 32 SMB levels tile by tile and object by object. I am lazy, and for that I apologize.
That said, if any kind soul wants to help me out by pointing me to a SMB editor where I can just replace the graphics with custom PNGs and the sound files with custom mp3s or whatever, I'd really appreciate it. Bonus points if there is a way to script things like parallax (which you could do in Game Maker, IIRC; I think I put 7 layers of parallax once. It looked very good for a 2D side scroller, but it's lost in the rubble of time).
I am obviously out of date here. I haven't done any tinkering with Mario games for around ten years. So thanks to all who reply.
